Mail app storage iOS7
Since upgrading to iOS 7 my email is now taking up 700mb of storage space. Before upgrading it used very little space. Is this a bug? How can I regain that space? Thanks

Same issue my said 11gb after iOS 7 install now we are a monthish in and I'm at 13.7gb going to try and delete accounts and re add to see what happens
Same issue here, with 2 accounts I have a 700MB app file size, with a 15GB phone and very little excess it's rediculous that my only options are to delete all of my text message history (holding 1.5GB) and am stuck unable to delete the excees Mail file size. Really makes me hate iOS7.
I am using the same iphone as you 4S ISO7. There was a number of steps I took to clear up the excessive memory usage. My mail was taking up 5.2 gigs and I was able to reduce it down to 98 megs. I have five different e-mail accounts so it took a bit of time.
First I went into each inbox and selected all the mail then tapped EDIT then tapped MARK ALL then tapped FLAG then went back to EDIT then MARK ALL then UNFLAG then I deleted all the mail. What this does is resets the mail to zero. If you have already deleted all your mail just send yourself one small message and follow the above steps.
Secondly I deleted each mail account seperately (one at a time) checking the Mail usage each time. Each time I deleted an account the usage numbers went down.
Thirdly I added my accounts back watching my usage each time I added an account.
Last, I backed up my iphone to Itunes and discovered that not only did my Iphone usage drop by the numbers above but the Document & Data usage displayed iin Itunes dropped to almost zero from 5.39 gigs.
Hope this is helpful.
I have done a thorough search into the problem and for me it has been fixed.
The problem for me, was that each folder was holding a large amount of emails.
I needed to delete large emails, especially with photo and graphic attachments, from each folder (INBOX, DRAFTS, SENT, and TRASH).
Only after deleting emails from ALL these folders did I get my usage down.
The one folder that hung me up longest was the SENT folder.
I hope you find your solution.
I tried deleting the eMail Accounts and setting them up again, with no success.
The solution that worked for me was to "Reinstall" iOS 7, and then Restore the data from my backup.
I gained 8 GB back from this method, and never lost any data.
A big culprit was my mail and I went from 4 GB to around 500 MB.
Just thought I would share what worked for me.
Well, after spending hours trying to find an answer to this, I have deleted my email accounts on iPhone and then added them back. This gave me 2.1GB more space. Hope that this helps someone until Apple comes up with a fix.
Deleted my main email account, and re-installed it at went from 1.3GB to 69MB!!
I also had more than 1Gb of mail left.
Unfortunately, the only succesfull method was to delete and reinstall the email account.
Many of us have this issue and are trying to use work arounds to fix the problem. When will Apple weigh in on this problem?
It sems like the best "fix" is to reestablish the ability to limit the number of emails downloaded from your ISP's server. Apple did it in OS 6, so it can't be too hard.
Hey Apple: (You know, you guys with all of the user-friendly experience?) COME ON, FIX THIS ISSUE!
Add me to the list. I have 1.9GB of mail data but I've deleted all my mail and deleted everything in the trash. I've tried deleting my account and then setting it back up, but there's still 1.9GB of "mail" with nothing in my inbox, sent, drafts, or trash.
It would be nice if someone would develop a utility to clean up this mess...
As has been stated countless times on this forum, you aren't addressing Apple when you post here.

I have deleted all but one email account inside of mail. That account has nothing in sent, nothing in draft, nothing in trash, 22 emails without attachments in the inbox. Mail Usage Amount: 1G, this bug makes the usage increase without allocating memory dynamically. Fix The BUG.
What worked for me was deleting my email accounts and then adding them back. I went to Genius Bar yesterday and the tech explained that, just like on a computer, even if you delete emails regularly, some file fragments are left behind and the volume builds up over time. After a year my email accounts totaled +6G even with no mail in them. Today I deleted my accounts and added them back. Now the usage is 124MB. It's tedious to do this (I have 5 accounts) but I will monitor the usage and perform this operation every 6 months or so. It just seems to be part of the iPhone's routine maintenance and is certainly easier than doing a complete reset.
deleting and reinstalling accounts is no fix! ( only temporarily, 30 mins later it went way up again)must be server related on the end apple cant controll (?) my yahoo and gmail accounts are not the problem. my own domain is. tried it domain wise but still no fix
I don't even use the mail app and it says its like 30 gb... not a typo....30. No email accounts are even conn
