Bought Apple TV (APV) and no problem getting video from IPad, IPhone to mirror onto my TV. The issue is audio only comes out of TV speakers not Sony Receiver. HDMI cable runs from ATV to Sony STR-DH500 Receiver (2 years old) using the HDMI DVD port.

Did you connect the ATV only with HDMI to the Sony or have you also connected the ATV via toslink to the TV?
Usually you just have to use the HDMI to the Sony, then tell the ATV in the audio settings just you use HDMI.
This should solve the issue.

By "toslink" do you mean digital optical cable? I have tried running a digital optical cable from the ATV to the Sony receiver along with the HDMI cable from the ATV to the Sony reciever and still did not get sound our of the receiver when on the receiver is set play for the HDMI port selected.
Here is the thing. I have Blue Ray player with a HDMI cable running into the Sony Receiver port and a digital optical cable running from the same Blue Ray player to the Sony Receiver and the sound is fine. I was doing the same thing with the ATV (but using the DVD port on rhe Sony Receiver for the ATV).
How do I get audio thru my receiver (video fine, but audio only comes out TV)audio only comes out of TV speakers not Sony Receiver.
