iphone5s - clicky, noisy home button

Hi all, my new iPhone 5s has a more plastic type click sound to it when you press the home button. Compared to any other iPhone I have had, this is the most "clicky".

I suppose it is to do with the new finger print sensor, BUT - wanted to ask out there if most other people notice this before I accept it is the change in design. Don't want to miss the window to check out this click with the store under their new purchase policy.

Thanks all 🙂

Definitely noticeable. Tough to be icgonito using the 5S. Not sure if all devices have the issue, but it seems that at least yours and mine do. So many details missed in the new phone and the new iOS. Jobs never would have tolerated this. What happened to the beautiful, crisp, clean product mantra? Between flying folders and clicking buttons, these will be good party favors for New Year's Eve.

@tgwaste, that is great that that is working for you.

Unfortunately it doesn't sound like it will work for me. My phone has had the defect since the start. The Genius at the Apple store heard the clicking and said that this defect is the way the phone is designed and built. He then showed me his and told me that all the phones in the store are like that. So it wasn't a chance of oil and dirt and such from a human being causing the defect in all these cases.

Same thing with mine. Another issue is that the home button is slightly more raised than others. The rim is scraping debris from my thumb and depositing into the space between the button and the screen. Another issue I have is a slight nick on the SIM tray that existed when I opened the box. Not happy with these at all. Went to apple store and the wireless carrier and they said as long as the phone works, it's not a problem they would look after 😟. Wasn't expecting this sort of imperfection with Apple devices. If anybody has any of these issues and how Apple has dealt with them, please let me know.

They didn't replace mine as well.

Joesph,

It would seem the click is a needed. I spent 10 minutes with a good explanation but once again because Apple designers can't do their "jobs" I pressed the cancel button instead of the add reply button! What idiot puts these two buttons so close together? You guessed it!

Anyway, I'll re-peck what I wrote if only because I feel there are some valid points you are missing.

1st, the 5s needs clicks because of the fingerprint touch access. It is also used to activate Suri.

My son has the iPhone 5 (used to be mine beige this 5s) and when using his phone I miss the clicks. Your statement of iPhones not having "clicks" is not true! When you adjust the volume there are clicks, when you press the lock button on the top right there is a very loud digital click. When you type it clicks. All of this true since the iPhone 3G

That said have a great day.

@SellC, that is not correct.

I had Siri on other iPhones. Siri didn't need a click to be activated. As a matter of fact, still have a 4S and some 5 iPhones in my home. Siri works, no click needed.

As for the fingerprint goofy nonsense, I have disabled mine. You can't even use it to make a purchase with the Apple Store app in an Apple Store. It's a gimmick that Steve Jobs would have fired people over. I have turned my fingerprint scan off and just tap in the 4 digits to unlock the phone. It is faster and more accurate and saves me from hearing annoying clicking.

Same for you! Wishes to you to have a great day.

Joseph,

I understand you don't need to have a click, but it's nice to have!

When holding the button down you get an initial click, which let's you know the button is down. When releasing you get another click. This helps!

When driving or multi tasking the click helps you gauge the button push. I have found the finger print scanner to be quite reliable and I use it for purchases all the time. I think Jobs would have loved the new finger print scanner. The only real concern I hear about is the safety of you finger print data, but let's be honest.. We leave out prints everywhere we go anyway.

I get the point you don't care for the click, but I feel it's rather helpful.

In all of the devices I have owned, I never needed a click to tell me what I was doing. It was pretty simple to tell if I did something or not. I pressed the button, the response happened.

I use my iPads including my Air perfectly well without any clicking sound.

No, the click to confirm that we did something is not what Apple had in mind. They decided to do this gimmicky nonsense with the fingerprint and designed and built a flawed device.

I actually read that Apple is going to catch up with some devices like Samsung where you can hover over the device, not need to actually press anything. Hoping that Apple will credit its frustrated users when they release this new iPhone.
