You can't get the old calendar back. However, there are lots of other calendar apps in the App Store. Perhaps one of them will meet your needs. Week Cal, for example, has a month view almost exactly like the one in the iOS Calendar app.

Best of luck.

Don't mind him, that's his standard answer for every post in this thread, he doesn't understand that we want the actual native software to work as it did or that we should be given a choice as to the interface we would like to use which is an option on so many other operating systems.

And when it comes to a specific peice of functionailty in - say windows adn outlook, for example - what does one do (and would do for the last 30 years). You purchase another calendar or mail application. It really isn't that terribly complicated. You do have choices, but seem to be too obtuse to take advantage of them.

You can purchase a suitable calendar for us, James... or afford Apple this responsibility. We shouldn't have to purchase something in addition to our (already) pricey phones. The old calendar is the item most participants in this discussion prefer - and we're fully allowed to voice that preference, along with our concerns about and/or dissatisfaction toward any alterations to said calendar. Mayhaps Apple will address this concern and afford those customers dissatisfied with the new calendar the option to revert to the old calendar. Does any Apple support staff take customer complaints to a higher level within Apple, or simply continue to disregard what are very valid concerns? Other than continuing to openly berate people about their concerns toward the new calendar, what are you doing beyond this to affect (a) change in the topic at hand? Let us guess: repeatedly tell us to purchase another calendar? I'm not thinking this conversation has been extended beyond that area in which you are allowed to discuss.

Frankly, I don't know what all the fuss is about. Apple in their infinite wisdom, "broke" the Calendar app. There are numerous comments in this thread (including from me) about the issues and problems with the current Calendar.

You can chose to live with the current Calendar or make the decision to spend $3.99 for the iPhone version of Fantastical 2 which alleviates the problems of the current Calendar.

Hopefully, Apple will see the error or their ways, but I doubt it. Steve Jobs is just shaking his head and wishing he could help.

Obtuse.....well that's funny, I was thinking the same about you and your inability to understand why the users dislike this version of the calendar and come here to discuss it with other like minded individuals. Is there seriously no Mod on these forums?

If you are not enjoying this conversation, and clearly you have nothing of value to add, you could just refrain from posting altogether, stop following it. I realize you are volunteers here, but if you aren't going to be helpful, then just don't chime in. Thank you for continually telling us to buy something else and referring us to the feedback link. If you have actual "support" for those frustrated with the Calendar, then please, provide it, otherwise stop coming in here to simply insult us like we are picking apart your personal life's work.

As Daniel said, we are allowed to vent and express our frustration, and I DID send feedback to Apple, but they don't respond to them so I have no idea what they will actually do with it, or if they even read it. So I can only hope that if enough people come here and vent their frustration, that someone from Apple may take it to heart. So please James, just let us bloody do that without being insulted by you...can you do that, please?

This is a technical support forum, not a discussion forum. Venting frustrations is not appropriate here. The Hosts have allowed a ridculous amount of leeway in this thread, mostly to keep all the people who want to complain corraled in one thread.

There's not really much to discuss. There are currently two options: live with the calendar or find another one. Any opinions you may have about what Apple should do belong on the Feedback page:

http://www.apple.com/feedback

As long as people don't violate the Terms of Use, they are free to post here, even if the disagree with you (or anyone else in the thread).

Best of luck.

Rather than allow us leeway and then insult us, could you just tell us what we are allowed to and not to post?

My question earlier was not answered, so perhaps it is not permitted; can you tell me where I can post it, if it is not appropriate? Which calendar app is most like the ios 6 calendar? In what ways does that app differ from ios 6? There are certain features that are really important to me.

Does/can apple offer the ios 6 calendar as an app?

Apple Support Communities Use Agreement

  1. Be polite. Everyone should feel comfortable reading Submissions and participating in discussions. Apple will not tolerate flames or other inappropriate statements, material, or links. Most often, a "flame" is simply a statement that is taunting and thus arbitrarily inflammatory. However, this also includes those which are libelous, defamatory, indecent, harmful, harassing, intimidating, threatening, hateful, objectionable, discriminatory, abusive, vulgar, obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or offensive in a sexual, racial, cultural, or ethnic context.
  2. Post constructive comments and questions. Unless otherwise noted, your Submission should either be a technical support question or a technical support answer. Constructive feedback about product features is welcome as well. If your Submission contains the phrase "I'm sorry for the rant, but…" you are likely in violation of this policy.

The community is offering constructive feedback, almost everyone has been specific about what it is they dislike about the new calendar, and the policy clearly states we are allowed to do so, so I'm not sure where the "ridiculous amount of leeway" has come in? What isn't allowed are the insults (such as calling people stupid and slow) that James has used in this thread (and not just to myself). Calling someone obtuse for no good reason is pretty smarmy in my opinion, and his comment was totally unnecessary and added nothing to the dicussion. As I suggested, if he has nothing helpful to add, and he is purporting to be some sort of tech support in this community, he should probably just back off the insults and stick to commenting on technical issues and stop trying to make people feel inferior for disliking something that this company has produced.

Numerous calendar apps have been mentioned in this and other threads on the subject. Fantastical 2 gets some very good reviews. Tempo and Week Cal also get mentioned. However, you're going to need to investigate them yourself as only you really know what features are crucial and what you can live without. I'd start with Tempo as it's free.

Here is a link to just one article I found when doing a search for "What calendar apps is most like the iOS 6"

Read the review, check out the developers' websites.

Best of luck.

Although good for the third party developers, it's sad that we all have to go out and download other calendar apps to replace basic functionality that should be part of the OS. Over time, I've found that most of the built-in apps have improved to the point of not needing as many third-party apps. In this case, calendar has definitely taken a step backwards. I don't care how many people say "it just takes getting used to", the fact remains that a basic feature (the list at the bottom of the month view on the iPhone) has been lost. I look forward to Apple bringing this back in a future release...

Jan 13, 2014 4:06 PM in response to IdrisSeabright

I'm trying "Pocket Life" right now and it seems to be almost exactly like the old calendar, even with the day's list at the bottom and appears on each day in a monthly view.

Although the free version has an advertisement at the bottom as well, you have an option to buy the full version and the ad goes away.

I also like "aCal Lite". It allows as many alerts as you put in, at customized times (for example, 15 minutes or 5 minutes before the event, you choose hours/minutes/day's) This app does not have the list down below.

Both will import your other calendars, both are FREE.

PLEASE Apple, give us our OH SO IMPORTANT Calandar back!
