iOS 7 wifi "unable to join the network"

I have an iPhone 5 that I upgraded to iOS 7 on 9/18/13. My phone and wifi connections worked fine until this morning 9/21.

Now when I have tried connecting to 2 different wifi networks, my phone is giving me the message "unable to join the network." I don't know why this is happening, has anyone else had this issue?

Wifi has worked the past few days since I completed the update to iOS 7. It has shown as connected a few times today, but no data will load when this happens. I am hesitant to restore the entire phone unless I am sure it will fix the issue.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

Well, according to the flyer here - http://www.arrisi.com/product_catalog/_docs/_specsheet/TG862G_PF_16APR12.pdf - it supports WMM and a quick google and this thread - http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Home-Networking-Router-WiFi/Bridge-mode-Arris-TG862 /td-p/1355457 - it looks like it may be on by default. Click on applications and gaming then QoS, and it should list it there (based on the 3rd last response in that thread).

Follow up, my trip to the Apple Store to solve the WiFi issue I had.

Of course while in the Apple Store it connected to the Apple Store WiFi with no issues.

The diagnosis at the Apple Store indicated no hardware issues and they did the same thing I allready did, restoring the iPod. Again it conected to the Apple Store WiFi after restoring.

So my next step was to find another WiFi signal, a coffee shop about 100 feet away. Guess what... "unable to join the network *coffee shop*"

I returned to the Apple Store and they swapped it out on the spot under the warranty.

So the only way I could resolve the issue was to go and reset the cable modem to factory settings. For this I had to do hard factory reset, as soft reset did not resolve the iPhone issue. Alas this solved the iPhone issue but now created an issue when streaming video, even just a short video from Youtube for instance. Plays for few seconds of say 1 minute video and then forever buffers. This may be related to the WMM setting which I am unable to control. It is equally possible there is something else going on with youtube and HTML5 player, given that the flash player works without any problems.

Hi,

My problem was that my new iPhone 5S could connect to my home wireless if I disconnected the security password, but not if it was connected. It turned out that the password that the phone was looking for was NOT the password to log into my home internet account.

What it wanted was what is called a 'pre-shared key' in my routers setup page online.

This was a 12 digit all-caps sequence.

The Pre-shared key was to be found in this area:

Wireless Network - Enable or Disable

Wireless Network Name (SSID) - _________________

Wireless Security Mode - WPA, WPA2 etc.

Encryption - ____________

Pre-shared key - AAAAAAAAAAAA

This is probably a rookie mistake, but might help others.

I don't remember having this problem with my iPhone 4.

i haven't been able to connect to wifi on my itouch 5 gen for about a month now. luckily my warranty isn't up yet, but this whole issue has definitely turned me off to the idea of continuing to be an Apple customer. it has been months and there doesn't seem to be a definitive fix yet.

my touch has gone from the ' unable to connect ' issue to connecting but not being able to acess the app store or the rest of the internet. i've tried all the fixes including reseting network settings, changing security and ssid / password, and rebooting the touch and my gateway.

apple has to know something about this. enough people are having the issue. just come clean already.

I don't know if this will help anyone else also, but I recently started having wifi connectivity issues. It would connect then disconnect. I'd get the 'unable to connect' and then it would connect....... After trouble shooting, talking to Apple, restarting, reseting, etc. I ended up getting a new phone. As soon as I got it home though it started happening again so I thought ok, time for a new router.

That's until I setup a guest, non-secured network. Then it connected fine and stayed connected BUT I needed it to be broadcast. If not my phone wouldn't see it.

After that I changed the name to my normal, protected ntework (I don't know why, I think I read it somewhere) and that has seemed to have 'fixed' it.

After trying all of the suggestions here I still could not connect. While trying to connect though I noticed that as I typed the password in got the router the 'join' button turned green after typing in 6 characters. The password was 10 characters long. So I went into the router settings and changed the password to a 6 character password, which has solved my wifi connectivity problem. My problem didn't start when I upgraded to IOS7 it began when I changed the router password, so perhaps this is not the place to post this solution, however, if you notice that your 'join' button turns green after typing 6 characters, then this may fix your problem too :)

My new iPad Air worked on our business wi-fi last week. Then came back to work on Monday and I got the 'unable to connect' message. I tried all the changes mentioned in this thread for the iPad and it didn't work. I rebooted the office access point and that didn't help.

So I turned on the hotspot feature on my iPhone 5 and connected my iPad Air to it. Then I loaded a few Safari webpages successfully. Then I went back to the the iPad's wi-fi settings and tried connecting to the office wi-fi and this time it let me connect. Then I turned off my iPhone hotspot.

POTENTIAL SOLUTION!

I upgraded my iPhone4S and iPad2 to iOS7 and then to 7.0.4 and have recieved the dreaded 'Unable to connect to network' message immedately from my home network. Thoughout the ordeal, I've been able to consisitantly connect to the wifi available in my office (both Internal and Guest). Even after performing a factory reset, this has always been the case. Unable to connect to some networks, but not to other; always able to connect at work, never from home.

One thing I noticed about my office wifi is that the encryption type is set to TKIP, while at home it was set to AES. On a whim, I decided that I should switch encryption type. I did, and IT WORKED! I reset my network settings, and then switched the router back to AES, and immediately recieved the original error message. I was able to repeat this several times using both my iPad and iPhone 4s.

Granted, I'm still not able to conenct to all networks, but I'm at least able to connect at home.

I dare say this may not resolve all issues, but may shed some light on what's broken.
