iOS 7 wifi "unable to join the network"

I have an iPhone 5 that I upgraded to iOS 7 on 9/18/13. My phone and wifi connections worked fine until this morning 9/21.

Now when I have tried connecting to 2 different wifi networks, my phone is giving me the message "unable to join the network." I don't know why this is happening, has anyone else had this issue?

Wifi has worked the past few days since I completed the update to iOS 7. It has shown as connected a few times today, but no data will load when this happens. I am hesitant to restore the entire phone unless I am sure it will fix the issue.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

So, after 4 days of "cannot connect to network" messages, I've resolved my problem and as I suspected at the outset it was a simple matter of rebooting a router, a router that I was unaware of until an hour ago. Here are the details, for completeness:

We are staying in a vacation home, so it's not our network. We have 3 iOS devices: an iPhone 4S (iOS 7.03), an iPhone 5 (iOS 7.04), and an iPad (iOS 7.04). Beginning 4-1/2 days ago, we found ourselves unable to connect to the network. I tried all of the fixes; nothing worked. We were able to connect to other networks (e.g., coffee shop), however.

What I did not know is that our host's network is set up with 2 subsets and a primary router and two subordinate routers, call them A and B, instead of simply 2 independent networks. (We could connect to B but it wekas too far away to keep a strong connection; I rebooted the primary repeatedly; I didn't know about A.).

A little while ago I learned of the existence of the third router, A (an Apple AirPort Extreme) and immediately understood that I had misconstrued the design of the network. I asked our host to reboot the Airport at which point connectivity immediately returned on the second sub-net.

How do you people accept this nonsense?

Sure buying a new car will fix the issue of a noise under the hood or you could fix the noise under the hood.

There is no logical reason why a phone would work on the same router under IOS 6 and not IOS 7. It is Apple's responsability to fix this as they have been by replacing phones.

Do not accept that it is your fault it isn't. It isn't your routers fault either.

Remember many like me had the issue where the phone can no longer connect to virtually any router that it used to and other Iphones/Ipads can connect to the same ones.

I started seeing this problem this evening. The connection to my WiFI worked right upto this morning. I went to work and the connection there worked too. I return home and now I get "Unable to connect to network".

I have tried the number of suggestions on my phone, and I am not about to go tamper with my router given my Macbook connects without any problem. Clearly this is an issue with iOS 7.0.4 and wonder if someone has put a time sensitive trap in the code. You know a happy Cyber Monday exercise as you didn't purchase any apple products!

I tried to power off and power back on with no luck.

I will see if this works in the work network, else throw the phone as far as the Geniuses can catch in the bar they call Apple store.

What a scam?

So I resolved this by doing a soft reboot of my cable modem. My cable modem has built in WiFi router.

I tried

1. soft boot of the WiFi module - no luck

2. soft boot of the WiFi router - no luck

3. soft boot of the cable modem - this seemed to have corrected the issue, though not getting anywhere with a request on safari broweser on the phone. hmmm

Oh I see network connected but when I try to make use of the connection it doesn't work and now get "Unable to connect to network"

I will try soft boot again and also boot the phone - Samsung would boot this I am sure. Oh slip of the tounge of a better choice I guess.

I tried that too and still have the same problem, which is to say iPhone indicates it has connected to the WiFi yet no access to the net.

I check the router logs and sure enough see the following:

udhcpd: DHCP server received REQUEST from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

where the right Mac address for the iphone is echoed.

I checked the iPhone network information and sure enough it has the expected IP within the range, DNS and search Domain listed. The phone shows 3 bars for wifi, yet no service.

The router shows my Macbook Pro, connected by WiFi, as is the Hooper but no iPhone.

Infact when I do "Forget This Network" then on the router the iPhone shows as an "unconnected device".

I then successfully connect with SSID and Password, and sure enough its mac address appears in a list of "Auto Learned devices".

So ..

as far as router is concerned it has a device connected.

as far as the phone is concerned it is connected

Even then, there is no access from any app including safari.

Ok, I just got my first ever Ipad last week and have been struggling with the same issue - won't connect to wifi while other devices (including 2 x iphone 4) connect fine. After hours and hours trying all the suggestions in this thread and others, I found one thing which appears to have fixed my issue - refer here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3727

Basically, WMM was not set to "enabled" on my router (a Billion 7800n). Enabled that, then had to do the reboot / forget network settings on the Ipad / hard reset, then was all good. Joined up just to let others know about this as I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere else (I realise it is pretty clear on that apple link, but haven't seen anyone link to it before and just stumbled across it by accident).

Be interested to hear if this helps anyone else with their issues.

I'm having issues with Wi-Fi connectivity as well with my iPod touch running 7.0.4.

I've been traveling all week and things were working normal. Yesterday I returned to my hotel, the same hotel I had been at the previous night and got the "unable to join the network" message So I walked across the parking lot and attempted to connect to the Wi-Fi at a different hotel, same thing. Gave all the fixes a try with no luck.

This morning I attempted to connect to the airport Wi-Fi, no luck.Once on the airplane and the Wi-Fi was turned on at 10,000 feet I connected and could use the airline app.

Now in a different hotel, same issue. Although when I'm in the hallway it thinks about connecting, but will not connect. If I go back in the hotel room it generates the error immediately.

Since I'm on the road I've made no software updates. My last update was weeks ago and the Wi-Fi had been working fine until yesterday.

I've read about some connecting when they get closer to the Wi-Fi source. I'm wondering if that might be my case, as once I was in the airborne metal tube, Wi-Fi worked? A hardware issue with the antenna?

Guess I'll have to find an Apple store.
