iOS 7 wifi "unable to join the network"

I have an iPhone 5 that I upgraded to iOS 7 on 9/18/13. My phone and wifi connections worked fine until this morning 9/21.

Now when I have tried connecting to 2 different wifi networks, my phone is giving me the message "unable to join the network." I don't know why this is happening, has anyone else had this issue?

Wifi has worked the past few days since I completed the update to iOS 7. It has shown as connected a few times today, but no data will load when this happens. I am hesitant to restore the entire phone unless I am sure it will fix the issue.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks Wesamipop but I think we who have this problem have tried this a dozen times.

Oh while I'm here on a note to those who protect Apple by saying that no Apple employee monitors these discussions:

  1. It's their website! (discussions.apple.com)
  2. It's their customers who are experiencing these problems
  3. Good customer service should be provided in many ways. One of which is (well should be) via a discussion forum such as this
  4. Owners of Apple products need answers and they don't always get the answers they need by booking an appointment with an Apple geek (or whatever they are called in the stores).
  5. Sometimes people don't have the time or the energy to go to a store so why not have Apple staff take part in these forums or at least watch them and feedback to the powers that be?

Rant over :-)

Guys,

I need some help. I have tried all of the work arounds (turning off wifi, forgetting the network, resetting all network settings, making sure the router does NOT have MAC filtering). The only solution is to reboot my router. That is absolutely ridiculous. It's only my Apple products that require me to reboot the router in order to reconnect. All other devices (Windows laptop, Roku, Samsung phone, Wii) connect and stay connected just fine.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

EC

oddly enough I had the same behavior. As soon as I reboot the router, connection speeds tripled and the iPhones were able to access WiFi. So I plugged the router into a lamp timer which switched it off from 3:00AM-3:15:AM. This wasn't really a long term solution, so I got rid of my new TP-Link 4300 router and went back to my 6 year old single antenna Buffalo router (Running tomato) and I haven't had the problem since. I'm still thinking its a problem with signal strength and/or MIMO.

I agree with you. It is a distance issue. I tried several things with my router and even my iPhone, nothing worked.

My all other devices (which includes a Samsung S4, a macbook and an iPad2 on iOS 7.1.2) works fine with the router at all distances within my home.

Only my iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.2 does not work at longer distances. It works fine when its within 10 ft of the router in the same room. I remember my iPhone working from anywhere within my house when I bought it about an year back (it was on iOS 6 then). So I am convinced its an iOS 7.1.2 issue.

And the same iPhone works fine in my office wifi.

Do you know of any solution yet ?

I too have had the unable to join issue, then I was told it was a hardware issue. Then, I was able to connect to wifi at the local starbucks...and at the grocery store...and at the airport...but not at home.

I have a new router, with updated firmware. Not the problem.

I have the latest IOS installed.

What I did discover is that I only have this connection issue when connecting to a router with security on. At home I run WPA2 and can only connect when I am about 3 feet from the router. When I walk away, the connection speed drops out to nothing. I walk closer, all good again.

The problem is software security conflict. I read on another post where a person was able to view the security settings and it was not showing the correct security settings for his router. His router was WPA2 and the settings on the phone were WEP. Those two different security settings are causing a conflict and not allowing the IOS device to connect. Even after resetting his device, no luck.

I too have also exceeded my data plan multiple months. I am tired of searching for solutions. I have tried all the tricks and tips and nothing works. I have less than two months and I will switch to a Samsung. I am selling my ipad and not looking back. I tried to be patient, but I am done with Apple.

If this problem still persist, then try this solution.

You need a laptop or computer

Open up your browser.

Then go to your router setting. It will look something like 123.323.1.231 (or anything similar). You can usually find it in your modem device.

Look for MAC filtering, If it is enabled then disabled it and save

or.

If it is disabled, then enabled it (or whitelist it) then click save. Then disabled it again and save.

Now check if you can connect with your ipad or iPhone!

I too had wifi connection problem for a few weeks. I tried everything but finally fixed this by changing the WPA encryption to WPA2 in the router settings. Inhave an old o2 wireless router. The clue was that the router event log have shown wpa tkip errors which lead me to investigate. I tried wpa+wpa2 but didnt work that well. Changed to wpa2 definitely worked for me. According to the ios website it recommends WPA2 encryption.

I had the same issue ever since I got my iPhone in August this year. After giving up hope that the problem goes away after upgrade from iOS 7 to 8 to 8.0.2 to 8.1 I returned it. Now, ten days later, Apple tells me it's not under warranty and I need to pay for a replacement or live with dismal WLAN. Aaaargh.

I would never have thought that I'd be missing my Windows Phone when I switched to Apple.

Guys, I have been working on my iPad (3rd gen) literally the whole day, I have tried all the settings (manual proxy, static IP, router settings etc.), I even went to the Apple store, but nothing worked and I still couldn't join my home WiFi even though every other Apple devices were able to join. I am running iOS 7.1.2 and I was just getting desperate, when I changed on my wireless router settings Region from Slovakia to United States and voila, the WiFI just connected immediately. I am located in Slovakia, and for now the changed region doesn't seem to have any effect on other devices connected to the WiFi router, so hopefully everything will be working just fine. Maybe for those who have the same problem it could be worth a shot. Let me know if it fixes for you... Good luck!
