iOS 7 wifi "unable to join the network"

I have an iPhone 5 that I upgraded to iOS 7 on 9/18/13. My phone and wifi connections worked fine until this morning 9/21.

Now when I have tried connecting to 2 different wifi networks, my phone is giving me the message "unable to join the network." I don't know why this is happening, has anyone else had this issue?

Wifi has worked the past few days since I completed the update to iOS 7. It has shown as connected a few times today, but no data will load when this happens. I am hesitant to restore the entire phone unless I am sure it will fix the issue.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

First, iPhone 4S worked in previous 7.0 IOS version. Got a new wifi / microphone/ speaker component installed today. Recognized local network as I drove away from the repair store. Came home, installed 7.1 and now, no WiFI.

Second, I read all about the job that Apple has done--again. Groaned, ****** and moaned. Up past bedtime working on this crap.

Third, went into the DHCP area on my Motorola Surfboard and gave the phone a residential license. Oddly, the router recognizes this as Lindas-iPhone. Hmmmm....something is working right...must be the router. Rebooted router just for grins.

Finally, I have tried a phone restart, Airplane mode suggestions, and the total Network Reset in General Settings > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

PS---I know it's not your fault Apple. I'm stupid as all ****. Doh. Thank God for endless data

I had exactly the same problem. I used every suggestion on the forums.

Here is what worked for me. I borrowed a windows laptop (also used an android phone)

and logged into the wireless right away. Then I when to the iPad and iPhone and was able to

instantly login. Three days I tried everything. I reset the router, reset the phone, reset the network

on the phone, turned airplane mode on and off. Nothing worked, so I got out my trusty windows laptop

and it connected right away. I went to the iPad and tried to connect that and it worked instantly as well

as the phone.

I was facing the same problem and tried every tip and suggestion out there. Turns out there was nothing wrong with my iPad or iOS. The problem was my wifi router's firmware wasn't updated. Try upgrading your router's firmware from the company's site. That should solve the problem definitely!!!

P.S. Make sure you download the correct firmware for your router make/model/version or you'll end up with a lack of access on all your devices.

I think many of us are having different problems that show the same error. Here's my theory, which seems to fix my problem with that error.

I use DD-WRT installed on my router. I use larger 9db antennas and the transmit power on high on my router. .... My Wifi network is too strong. What happens, is that in order to get coverage all over my house and through walls, the Wifi router blasts signals everywhere. the iPhone picks them up 100 ft away, and given the strength of the signal, gives it "5 bars" and tries to connect. It assumes that with a signal this strong, the iPhone must be right next to the access point. And so it reduces the iPhones transmit power so that it can save battery power. the problem is, an iPhone 100 feet away from the access point, running on reduced power can't talk back to the access point. it can receive, but not transmit.

so i reduced my transmit power on my router to ~60 mW or so, and its working much better. The iPhone behavior must be something added recently to the iOS, like 7, and other versions released in the last year or so.
