iOS 7 wifi "unable to join the network"

I have an iPhone 5 that I upgraded to iOS 7 on 9/18/13. My phone and wifi connections worked fine until this morning 9/21.

Now when I have tried connecting to 2 different wifi networks, my phone is giving me the message "unable to join the network." I don't know why this is happening, has anyone else had this issue?

Wifi has worked the past few days since I completed the update to iOS 7. It has shown as connected a few times today, but no data will load when this happens. I am hesitant to restore the entire phone unless I am sure it will fix the issue.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

Ok here it is for good or bad, I have Comcast 120 Mbps Internet , tv and phone. I have 3 iPads, 3 iPhones, 3 iPad touchs, Samsung tablet , plus several other toys for a total of 20 wireless devices. Crazy I know but who cares? I installed iOS 7 in 3 of the goodies, one of the iPads is version 5.1.1 and won't take the update, and was having issues connecting to the net, thanks (AL) sometimes they would see the network sometimes not, they would connect with other known networks, outside my home, sometimes the 7 would work, sometimes not, sometimes 5.1.1 would work sometimes it would not work. Getting my drift daddy o....? Even the Samsung would quit seeing the network at times...... Crazy baby.....! I called Comcast set up appt......and yesterday was the big event....! Tech shows up said he has seen the NOTES, on the job.....said everything looked just fine.....signal, connections, ect you know the drill....! I showed him my phone not connecting to my wifi at my home....the phone saw it......great signal....! But unable to connect....***....! Then I walk the tech next door to friends house, I have his wifi password in my phone, walk to his front door and guess what....? You guessed it.....boom wifi....unbelievable ......tech looks puzzled poor guy, then we go back to my house guess what....? You guessed it unable to connect to network......tech let me call my supervisor .....ok off he goes to his truck.....tech comes back...hey he asks......what's your wifi password wants to connect with his phone iPhone 4s ..........NO iOS 7.......lookout....won't connect to the wifi.....***...... I know, potty mouth....so here is what we came up with. This worked for me and everyone's case will be somewhat different I know.......But my router was about 1 year old....and has never been the right router per my tech.....why you ask? My Internet speed is above 115 Mbps and the old modem/ router won't work well above those speeds he said, let me install the right one......ok I said.....I hade issues with this router before but won't go into that mess........so out comes the new router, I show him how to change the password from the default factory setting....want to keep the same network name.....I think it's pretty witty not4you........... and password, remember I have 20 wireless devices don't want to change all those and neither would you, so all done....my phone works, my iPad works, my old iPad works, everything works happy days are here again....! So people please think outside of the circle, boxes are for squares man, and look for the easy fix sounds like lots of you folks are trying to make this fix....way to hard...thanks for reading and have a great life...it's to short not to have fun...!

After upgrading to 7.2 my iPad 2 was working fine, but started giving 'Unable to Join" Wi-Fi issues of and on until today, it stopped connecting. Tried network reset, forget network; it did not work. I was able to make my iPad connect again to my Wi-Fi by doing this -

1. To go router wireless settings, disable encryption. This means anybody can connect to your router, obviously not what you want, but its just for a min

2. Turn Airplane mode on and then off; this is just to prompt your iPad rescan your Wi-Fi networks

3. Connect to your network; it should connect (atleast my iPad did)

4. Turn Airplane mode on

5. Go back to your router wireless settings and put back the security settings and password

6. Turn off Airplane mode off and try connect your network again; this time it should ask for your passphrase and join the network. It did for me..

Good luck

Thank you for the suggestion! I find there are certain wifi access points that my iPad now will not join at all, even with wifi password protection turned off, although it used to join them just fine running iOS 6.x. It will connect to some routers only some of the time. One of them is my AT&T MiFi liberate card. Yesterday, I got the typical "unable to join" error. I did a network reset: nothing. I even did an entire iPad reset, again nothing. I then drove about 100 miles to a new location and tried again. Suddenly, it joined just fine. (??)

I was having same problem with my iPhone 5 and iOS7. Was getting "unable to join" or "password incorrect" messages for my home wifi. Many fixes I read said to click on "Forget This Network" but that option was mysteriously gone (only "Join Network" was available). I finally read somewhere that iOS7 has a problem with apostrophes in the device name. If your phone is named "Bob's Phone" you'll get odd wifi issues. Just take out the apostrophe and it'll be fixed. Sounds wierd but it totally worked for me! Go to Settings-General-Name, touch the arrow and you can change the name. Take out the apostrophe, then shut down the phone and restart. Worked for me when all else failed!!

Same problem. At work we have easily 50 Ipads and 50 Iphones and not a single one except my Iphone has the problem. It used to work on our Wifi hotspots all the other Iphones/Ipads work on the company hotspots.

It will connect to Wifi at the Apple Store (this infuriates me) it will connect to a phone used as a hotspot with a password.

Apple there have been enough posts about this own up to the problem and offer a fix!

Add another broken iphone to the list. This is ridiculous. I have gone to the Genius Bar, applied all updates, restored the phone multiple times - still no Wifi. I've also blown through my cellular data as a result.

If anyone knows an Apple Engineer or someone inside the company, this needs to be addressed! It is making me consider going to the Android camp, even though that's really the last thing I want to do!

So I complained to apple.....nada! So I complained to O2.....nada despite my please of responsibility under sale of goods act and some obscure ec directive about manufacturers responsibility regardless of 12 month and that my phone didn't have an issue like everyone else who is venting their frustrations on here until the recent update.

I had almost given up hope and approached the shop where I signed up to the contract with and where the iPhone 4S came as an incentive 'apparently the phone comes free' so I hadn't bought a phone as such and finally they admitted that there were many issues being reported and that as a gesture of goodwill they would send me a free brand new iPhone 5 and in their words "no point sending you another iPhone 4S as they chances are the same thing will happen"

I do hope everyone gets some satisfaction.....my advice is persevere, know your rights, gather the facts and stand up for your rights!

I had the same problem connecting to WiFi networks since I downloaded iOS7. Went to Apple store and they know there is a problem but the stupid phone joins no problem to their network

Anyways, I FOUND A SOLUTION, I logged into my home network (usually IP address) of my router and I added a Guest Network, which allows acces to the internet only (which is all I need), gave it a password and BINGO, it connected. I wish I know why and I will not be able to share or connect my iPhone to the Apple TV but at least I had wireless to download an update. Next stop then, would be to call my internet provider to find out why a guest network woud work and the Primary network will not.

We're getting closer (without Apple's help). By he way the iPad worked without a hitch after iOS download so not sure what exactly is the proble

I have some interesting observations to share and would appreciate any feedback. To summarize, I have an iPhone5 and an iPad Mini. I upgraded both to iOS7. The iPhone works fine. The iPad Mini is unable to connect to some routers that previously (with iOS 6.x) were not a problem. I get an "unable to join" error. This includes my home router (very frustrating). I have tried every suggestion I could find on this thread and elsewhere. (Forget network, airplane mode-->reset network settings, reset router, remove router password, change router SSID, reset all iPad settings, etc.) Again, these are routers that the iPad previously connected to with no problems.

Here's the interesting part. I just upgraded to iOS 7.0.3. Even though the list of bug fixes did not include wifi connection problems, I was hopeful. Upon rebooting, I now couldn't even see my router on the list of available networks. Previously, I could see it, just couldn't connect to it. Strange. I tried switching WiFi on/off, airplane mode on/off, rebooting, nothing. My home network was not detectable. I was about 30 feet from the router. I then moved to about 1 foot from the router and it appeared. Furthermore, I could now connect to it for the first time since the move to iOS 7. I thought "hurray" problem solved. But not so fast. When I returned to my bedroom 30 ft away, I was still connected to the router but no internet. Speedtest: "network connection problems." If I moved back to 1ft from the router, super fast connection. I checked speedtests and latency measurements at 1ft, 10ft, 20ft, and experienced a dramatic drop in speed and increase latency as I moved away from the router. At 25ft, I lost all internet traffic although it showed I was still connected to the router with a strong signal. If I disconnect from the network, I could see the router at 30ft again, but when I try to reconnect, I am back to the "unable to join network" error. But I can join it just fine if I'm 1ft away.

Can others try this? If you're unable to join the network, what happens when you move the device right next to the router?

I welcome any thoughts about this, and any suggestions.
