Since my previous post on October 31, 2013, Apple has concluded that my issues are carrier related.

(I know that not everyone in this thread has the same issues I do, even though your symptoms may be similar. However, I hope this helps some of you.)

For the past two weeks, Apple engineers have had me conduct extensive tests and reviewed my iPhone’s console logs. They’ve determined that my issues with Do Not Disturb and Call Block not properly silencing incoming calls are directly related to the Name Display option on my Rogers mobile account (I assume this will be the same for Fido customers, since Fido is also a Rogers brand).

I was able to confirm this by having Rogers temporarily disable Name Display on my account, after which my iPhone’s Do Not Disturb and Call Block immediately began to work as advertised.

Apple says this is a carrier issue that I must now pursue with Rogers, but I don’t think it’s that simple. The fact is, Do Not Disturb worked perfectly fine in iOS 6 on my current iPhone 5. I’ve also made no changes to my mobile account since 2012. Nevertheless, I observed Do Not Disturb stop working after I updated to iOS 7.0.2, which suggests to me that it is a software problem in iOS 7.

Either way, my next step will be to ask Rogers to look into Name Display compatibility with iOS 7 and, if necessary, work with Apple to resolve these issues. I’m not optimistic… but I love Name Display too much to give it up without trying.

The issue is only related to the Name Display portion of Call Display. Most carriers don't even offer this option. In Canada, I believe only Rogers and Fido offer Name Display as part of Call Display.

You can keep Call Display, which only shows the incoming number. But you'll need to have Name Display disabled, if it's currently included in your rate plan or feature bundle.

Rogers easily disabled Name Display for me, even though it's part of my feature bundle. If the problem is ever resolved (fingers crossed), I'll be able to have Name Display re-enabled without changing my rate plan or feature bundle.

Appreciate the effort put into trying to reach a resolutuon.
Also I believe that with call display only if the contact calling you is in your contact list within your phone then there name will appear when they call. So name display isn't that much of a feature we would miss if disabled.

Question though, this is still pretty obvious an apple ios7 software issue because we can all probably agree that with name display enabled none of us had this problem using ios6, as dnd worked fine. Did apple give you any indication that they agreed it was a issue on their end and if they would possibly work on fixing this, or did they completely blame it on the carrier and our only solution is to disable name display.

Lastly can we disable name display or does rogers need to do it on their end.

Thanks again

I'm sure that many people wouldn't miss Name Display, especially since it's not even available on most carriers. However, I would miss it immensely. In fact, it's the main reason I've remained with Rogers instead of switching to Telus or Bell, who both have better coverage in many of the regions I work. My iPhone is my only permanent work phone and nearly half of my calls come from one-time callers related to projects on which I'm currently working, so they aren't in my Contacts. Name Display helps me manage my calls better and allows me to be better prepared when I answer a call. It's the same as knowing who's calling your landline before you answer.

Agreed. It was iOS 7 that introduced the incompatibility between iPhone's Do Not Disturb and Rogers Name Display for me.

Apple said it's the carriers' responsibility to fix the issue, because the iPhone is available for dozens of carriers worldwide, all of which potentially offer carrier-specific features that need to be made compatible with the latest iOS. Basically, it's up to Rogers engineers to contact Apple, if Rogers wants to make Name Display compatible with iOS 7.

For us, the only solution at this time is to disable Name Display.

You will need to ask Rogers (or Fido) to disable Name Display on their end. I contacted Rogers online through their Live Chat service and the representative made the change while we chatted.

Holy crap Darin, you SOB you!!!! I tried your idea of calling Rogers and having name display taken off...DND FINALLY WORKS!!

It took about a 45 minute conversation with the rep...he was having a **** of a time disabling call name and claimed it was impossible...I read him your post a couple of times and I guess he finally figured it out. DND works great again!

All hail Darin!

I went through all this crap last month with Apple advisors who insisted that DND and Call Block problems with ios7 were NOT known issues! Do they not read this stuff??!! After many calls and hours on the phone they sent me a replacement iphone 4s but it didn't help. And yes, I have Rogers and Name Disply but there's not a chance in **** I'm having them disable it so that DND will work!

Anyway thanks for all the leg work on this issue Darin. I guess all us Rogers customers will just have to sit back and hope that Rogers and Apple work together to fix this!

So I called rogers iPhone tech support on this issue and they did a test for me. They called me with a number that has a name display, I then blocked that number and had them disable name display on my phone. Then when they called back, the call was successfully blocked. They put me on hold while they discussed it with level 2 tech support who were also able to recreate the issue, and said that they did get another customer with this issue today. So they opened a ticket # for me and said someone would text or call me back within 72 hrs. In the meantime they disabled name display on my phone. Hopefully this helps to get the issue resolved, but if think it does not hurt to have more rogers customers call in to tech support and report this issue.

So mine isn't working either. On my iPad and iPhone I am not getting notification signals. In settings, Do Not Disturb, under Silence there is a check mark at "Only when iPhone is locked". A friend says on his device the check mark only appears when he has engaged the "Do not disturb" button. I checked and Do not disturb has NOT been engaged. Interestingly though if I swipe up on the home screen and select the engage "Do not disturb", when I look in Settings, "Do not disturb" shows up as NOT engaged. The reverse is true if I engage "Do not disturb" from within Settings, if I swipe up it shows as engaged. How can I disengage the check mark next to "only when locked"?

A separate issue is that I have the "clicks" engaged when I use the key pad. It works on my iPad but now is no longer working on my phone.

Appreciate any help or insight.
