I used the Finder to search All My Files for all the .m4r fils on my computer. All the "missing" ringtone files were still there, just not being listed or seen by iTunes. Then I copied these files to a folder on my desktop. In iTunes, I used the "add to library" command in the Ringtones section to get the ringtones seen by iTunes, then synched my iPhone. All the ringtones were back in service and linked to the contacts and alarms as before.

You can get a credit for them if you complain long enough. It took multiple emails with them denying they had any record of the tones then saying they were now unavailable in iTunes then finally giving me three song credits when I asked for a manager. I wonder how many millions of dollars of ringtones they've deleted in this upgrade. Pretty savvy business move.

Hi,

This worked for me -- with some tweaking. The ringtones didn't populate the contact list, but at least I got them to load onto the phone.

Will heed advice here and WAIT before uploading. It wasn't only the ringtones, which were a comparatively minor inconvenience to my phone going into recovery mode/deactivated and it taking 25 (literally) hours to figure out how to reinstate it. And it's still not back to the way it was.

Anyway, THANKS, Flebsplick!!
