iOS 7 not alerting me when I have a text message

When i get text messages and I'm using my phone it doesn't alert me even when I went to the notification center and put it as alert. This has only happened with iOS 7 not with the previous update.

I have this problem most but not all of the time since latest update to ios7. Now I get no alert or badge for messages, reminders, and calendar events. I have checked my settings, which by the way did not change, and they are all set with tones, notification, badges and alerts. I have reset several times and tried all the other suggestions. Nothing works! Any more suggestions?

I had the same question, except mine was not alerting me on only a certain phone number. I tried everything mentioned in this thread. Nothing worked! I finally went to my contact info on the non-alerting number and pressed "edit". Toward the bottom of the screen when scrolled down there was a "do not disturb" button that was toggled "on". I Untoggled it and of course now I get the alerts! I had never set that up on a particular number - I wouldn't have known how! But now, when I go back into that contact and open edit, there is no "do not disturb" toggle switch! It's gone!

I was so frustrated, I just thought if anyone else had this problem it might save you from the same frustration! 🙂

After my last post, I realized why I didn't see the "do not disturb" toggle button in my contact's information. You need to go to "messages" and open the message board of your contact. At the top of the screen push "Details". The "do not disturb" button is right under "Share my location". If it is toggled "on" you won't be getting any alerts. Hope that helps someone who had my problem!

My fiancé wasn't getting notifications that I texted him. He'd unlock his phone only to see he had a text, many hours later. I went into his phone and opened our text conversation, on the top right corner of my name I clicked DETAILS. The DO NOT DISTURB button was accidentally switched on. Once I turned it off, I texted him and he got a notification!

I'm glad you're still engaged! My husband - of 35 years - is ready to kill me! I don't see how I hit the DND toggle by accident, since I didn't even know about "details." Plus, it's the person you txt the most--everyone else was coming through. It was hard to believe me (I hardly believed me). The first time I did it, I finally noticed the moon; this time, there wasn't even a moon. So I did _everything_ suggested above. Thank you all (Jmoh, etc.) very much. Sounds like the updates are pushing us backwards--and wrecking relationships! When I saw the update to cure the update that made alarms not ring, I was appalled! Aren't you all furious at Apple?

Thank you very much. Performing a reset did not help until I killed the messages app (getting to the scrollable apps by pressing home button multiple times and then flicking up on messages app). After I killed the messages app and THEN did a reset it started to work again. Thank you for your help. This was getting frustrating to me.

This was driving me a bit crazy today, but I figured out a couple of other possibilities that no one else has mentioned yet:

  • Make sure you don't have a bluetooth headset attached. It could be intercepting notifications and playing them through the headset
  • Make sure you are not also currently using the Messages application on you laptop/desktop mac. It also has the tendency to intercept messages and mark them as read before they reach your phone.
