power button rattles when you shake the 5S

Hi,

You have posed a question that has puzzled me over & over, for the last four iPhones that I have owned to this date.

First, I can confirm that my SO's 5s does NOT rattle when I perform the test as described (I have done it so many times, she probably thinks that I am a loon, LOL). That being said, I have personally owned three 5s devices to this date and ALL of them displayed the same problem. She is just that lucky (being married to this awesome guy, you know #joke).

The bottom line, as per my experience, is: while it is not the case with all of the units, it is NOT a quality flaw. It appears to be an acceptable design of the 5s.

So, go on & enjoy your device.

Ask Apple for guarantee.

I know I participated in this thread, but i am out of time. A rattling switch should not be acceptable, working or not. At least one year guarantee, in most EU countries two years guarantee. Call Apple.

Does the rattle go away when you guys quit shaking it?

I finally gave up on this power button rattle issue. Apple store employees here in Vancouver were not at all helpful with this issue and went as far as saying this was totally a non-issue. Little it served them to actually watch a video where the clicking sound was clearly audible while walking (i.e. not violently shaking the phone, just walking). It's a phone lottery; one might get one that doesn't rattle but then there could be other issues (i.e. sticking power button, lint in the camera lens... ). I was simply told the phone is clearly not right for me and I should just return it and forget about it. Guess what, given the price of these phones, I followed their advice and I'm now happily using a Z2 that has metal bezel and yes, you heard it, doesn't rattle. Sad to see QC degrade at Apple over time.

I don't think so. The issue does tend to get worse over time in terms of vibration but it stops there. If you find a way to coat the bezel around the button with a non-conducive polymer, you can probably fix the issue. You shouldn't have to, though, but it's a remedy if the vibration annoys you. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem! And its enoying me so much! But i have other one. When u block ur power button its stop rattles but when i put iphone on table its still rattles! Its killing me but all say that is fine.
