How to get rid of annoying grey bar on desktop?

I don't know how it happened. (I think i might have pressed a shortcut or something) But i can't for the life of me, get rid of it.

it's a thin grey bar which runs down the side of the desktop. I can't click on it or find how to turn it off.

Please help!

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Try going to your system preferences- Desktop and screensaver/ And then click the backround color and choose black.
