Microsoft Wireless

Does anyone know if one must use the receiver/transmitter that comes with the wireless microsoft keyboard/mouse?

Or can I simply use the bluetooth in my mini mac and bypass the receiver/transmitter?

The key/mouse works fine when I have the receiver plugged into the mini mac, but was hoping to save a usb port and clutter if the bluetooth technology will let me. Thus far, I have not been able to have the mini 'discover' the keyboard or mouse with the receiver attached.

Background: Been a Mac user for a couple weeks. Have the standard $799 model mini.

Thanks!

out of curiosity, i just tried it as I have an MS MX900 optical mouse that came as part of the diNovo wireless desktop. it took me about 20 seconds to open the settings, bluetooth menu, and automatically find the mouse. works perfect. actually both the apple mouse and the logitech mouse are working... can use either one simultaneously. the logitech has a scroll bar, is bigger but feels better in the hand, has 2 button operation, and has two other buttons that i am guessing can be programmed to do other things if one wanted (i don't). come on apple, wireless might mouse please?

It would depend on what type of wireless microsoft hardware it is. If it is bluetooth, then yes, the Mini should be able to find it without using the USB Port. However, if the mouse/keyboard actually use an RF transmitter/receiver, then it is not compatible with the bluetooth and you will need the dongle.
