I can't update from snow leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion. Safari crashes whenever I get to the macappstore page.

I have a the mac app store app, but it says that it needs 10.7 OS X or later to run it which doesn't make sense. Any help would be appreciated.

You mean this:

It should run for only a few seconds and then connect. Reboot and try connecting again.
