iOS 7 and Facetime dialing (multiple numbers for one contact)

With iOS 6, I was able to select which number to Facetime for a specific Contact.

Now, with iOS 7, I can't select this at all. It defaults to the first number I have saved in this contact (which is their work number and not a Facetime associated number at all!)

I even tried the following: Open up Facetime app --> Contacts --> tap on the number to dial (proper Facetime number) --> it insteads dials their number using my phone, and not Facetime. I tried the same steps, but tapped on the users email instead (also associated with their Facetime id). Instead of Facetiming their email address, it opens up the email app!! What's the deal?? Why is it so difficult to choose which number/email to Facetime?

This has to be some sort of BUG. The only work around I can find is adding a second contact with ONLY their Facetime number. There has to be a solution to this.

Is anyone else running into this problem?

Me and my girlfriend have got the same problem. We both have an ipad and an iphone. Earlier i was able to choose between calling her on the iphone (available on her phone number) or calling her on the ipad (available with her email adress).

After the Update on IOS 7 it's not possible to choose. There's only one button "FaceTime" in the contact and i don't know which number is called?!

Yea, I can't believe there's no answer to this.

I added my sister's contact as a "favourite" under the Facetime app. When I click on her contact, there is a Star icon next to her Work number that I have no idea how to change. Her Work number is obviously not a Facetime ID... *sigh*

And you would think clicking on the Facetime icon under contacts would allow you to choose which ID/# to dial, right?

Anyone else with this problem? Any solutions Apple???

Before the update i could open FaceTime and open a contact in FaceTime. Then i was able to click on any number or email to call it.

Now i can click on the number and the telephone app opens. I can click on an email and Mail opens to write an email. What's that?

It would be nice to get a statement from Apple?!

Is there anything we all make wrong? Or could we do it better with the next update?

I don't understand why this easily running system got changed!

I too have the same problem. I can no longer FaceTime my wife on her phone whilst at she's at work and then FaceTime the kids on her iPad afterwards because both of her devices are under the same contact but with different FaceTime addresses! This was not an issue in iOS 6.

I thought that this update was meant to make the Apple experience a more enjoyable one, instead it has made it harder for my family to communicate bringing much sadness and frustration into our lives!!!!

I too wish that I had not been so keen to update, my life would be that much happier as I would be able to speak to my family whilst working away!!!

Come on Apple be brave enough to respond!!

This might, or might not, help. I was digging around a bit and found this. http://www.apple.com/ios/facetime/

It has a section on facetime setup. It indicates that with iOS 7 you need to specifically identify how you want to reachable via facetime.

I noticed on my recently upgraded phone that all my contacts that can do facetime are defaulted to their phone number. I'm going to try some experiments over the weekend and will get back with some results.

SIlver, it wont work. This was existing from before. You choose how to get reached so for example on the ipad you put your apple id, on your phone your number. So if someone wants to call he CANNOT CHOOSE WHERE so he taps the efficient one click super dupper facetime button and if on his contact he has both your mail and phone, facetime will ring in both devices...no matter if you carry the phone and you ve left the ipad home. Its ********. Ill seriously downgrade

Hi All,

To solve the problem, for now, you should create two different address "sheets" in the Contacts list for the same person. Say address sheet number one, lists the first name as Jane and the last name is iPad-Facetime. In this address sheet, you only put her iPad FaceTime email address, say: JaneFT@yahoo.com. Then in sheet number two, enter her real name, say Jane Smith. In this sheet, you put everything in there - her iPhone, office, Google Voice phone number... and also all her email addresses EXCEPT JaneFT@yahoo.com. Then every you wanted to call Jane's iPad, just search look for Jane iPad-Facetime and press FaceTime. But if you wanted to Facetime with her via her iPhone, just go to Jane Smith and press FaceTime.

Now, here is the most important thing. On her iPad, you must go to <Settings>, <FaceTime>, then look in the middle of the screen you will see a section which says <You Can Be Reached by Facetime> and uncheck her phone number. Voila.

It should work. Good luck.

Hi,

No i REFUSE to get back to early 90s where we had separated contacts for every number. If you remember those times the unique "id" was the telephone number (thus one telephone number to one person) and not the person (one person to many numbers).

If we dont get an answer from Apple any time soon for this I'll downgrade the phone and ill be happy. We didnt get to iOS 7 so we can have functionality of nokia 2110.

I completely agree with everyone!

This is really a MAJOR step back APPLE!

I am pretty convinced that this is an attempt to do with facetime what they managed to do with iMessage, where it just works flawlessly, and you dont have to choose to sent a message as an iMessage or a normal SMS, you just sent it to this person, and this person (if in the APPLE ecosystem) just chooses where they want to adress the message, across ipads, iPhones and Macs... the problem here is that APPLE for some reason dont understand how people are using Facetime, and how you here REALLY need the option to call either one device or the other!!

Cmon APPLE, it is not often I shout out for you guys to adress issues, but this one is just OFF the mark!!! Give us the choice back, to call either a number or an email!! Simple as that!...
