Superdrive Severely Scratching My CD's on New Macbook

This has happened to about 5 of my discs, when I noticed the scratches, I was using the macbook on my lap, with VERY little movement (just playing an audio CD). This disc happened when I was at a coffee shop, the Macbook was on the table and I turned it around to show my friend the display. I did not even lift it up to turn it around. The disc is ruined due to the circular scratching, it feels etched in to the touch.

Is this a defective drive? Surely a notebook cd-rom is not this sensitive, and I have never seen this problem before on my sister's Toshiba notebook.

just how do you get apple to replace the damaged disks? I tried calling after I had three disks damaged and they told me that I was S.O.L. because the disks didn't come from them and it wasn't their responsibility to replace disks...any suggestions?

Sounds strange... the disks that were scratched didn't come from them or the drive didn't come from them?

Either way... My MacBook, as earlier posted, did the same thing. It's a bad drive, that's all. Call your store, take in the damaged disks to show them, and they'll swap it out.

They're aware of it... at least the employees are aware of this issue. Just display a little maturity and respect and you'll get the same. Don't cry about the money you've spent and got crap for it... that will not win you points.

It may, however, earn you a donated box of tissues...

I was told that because the disks didn't come from apple that I was out of luck. They were just movies, not program disks, but still I find it very odd that they would be scratched at all from the optical drive. I am already on my third drive, and just took my laptop back today for a new drive. (The last one has lasted me less than 2 weeks before it ruined a disk).
The guys at the store I went to had never heard of the disks being scratched by the optic drive. They even kept my disks to send them in to show apple what was happening.

same thing with mine, i just brought it back to the Apple Store and they ordered the new optical drive and top case so that i have minimum downtime. I would suggest you just take it to the apple store. mine scratches games (DVD) with absolutly no movement.

not true, with the MacBooks moving the damage is amplified much more, where as in a car you have shock absorbers, etc.. I would recommend taking it to the apple store, just goto www.applestore.com/retail and then click on the store thats nearest to you and schedule an apointment with a genius, they are going to repair mine a few days when the parts get in.

I am not sure what kind of car you drive but cars I have been in have lots of jostling, shaking, vibrating.
