Basically, after careful evaluation, IOS 7 drains the iphone 5 at a rate of 1% every 60 to 120 seconds if doing any of the fol:

Any browsing

Any calls

Any radio/speaker

All these observations noted with all the normal power hogs turned off (notifications app refresh etc and minimal brightness)!!!!

Apple support confirmed it as a KNOWN ISSUE. And that a replacement likely to have the same issue.

As I mentioned earlier, Apple Sr support did remore SMS diagnostics and confirmed my usage was not right. They replaced the iPhone with one sent from their special replacement warehouse.

The new one is great- drains more than iOS6 but not like the defective unit. So a charge will last me 1-3 says. If using it, minimum 1-1.5 days.

Tested browsing yesterday, from 38% dropped to 36% 10 min flat 2-2.5% drain. Now this is important as drain below 50% is slower than 100 to 80. At 2% that would be 8 hrs surfing; at 2.5, over six which is within spec.
If you are getting less than that, significantly less such as 1-2 hrs total (40 to 80 sec per percent), I recommend contacting Apple for a hardware troubleshoot.
Also ensure no other apps are running, i would do the test with a clean fresh install, no backup yet just for a few hours. Why? Because that will eliminate software and blame hardware. Gut instinct is that it is hardware and:
- Battery is defective- whcih happends in any gadget 15% of the time
- Other hardware issues that short
Mine was other hardware issues as they had already replaced my battery and it was doing the same thing.
If you are out of warranty, you might still get a descent deal for a replacement from Apple.
"But I did not have this problem with iOS6." Maybe you did but you got 3 hrs for not 1-2 hrs. But it is way less than 6 or 8 it should have happened.
"It started with IOS7." Yes but IOS7 implemented firmware and other changes regarding voltages screen etc, and a single aspect not done correctly at installation (by the software) could have brought on or worsen this issue. We know that if you do 1000 firmware installs, a few will not work. So the hardware problem was likely there before, and the iOS 7 update really exposed it.
Hope it helps, call Apple Support. Iti si still the best rated cusomer service company in the world for a good reason.

Got an iPhone 5, thought I install iOS 7 and yes, the same problem. Draining battery in a couple of hours.

Followed all the settings-tips for battery savings...nothing much that helped except switching off SIRI.

So after my battery was fully charged, I reset all settings and then unplugged it from charger.

Tested a bit..using WIFI, I can't get the battery to drain it seems. With all settings at non-saving..(like auto update, running of apps in the background, everything that has been said to reduce battery drain), it looks much better than before.

With WIFI off, 3G data on it will start to drain but much slower than before.

Need to check how long this will hold. Planning to drain the battery completely and then a full recharge.

Both my husband and i noted significant battery drain after upgrading our iphones to IOS7. It is not coincidence that our phones were dead after 3 hours . We both used to get 2 a,most 3 days on a charge. There can not be. That mNy faulty iphones out there that were eunning well on IOS6 only to develop problems only when updated. The internet is full of complaints regarding unusually high battery drain with this update. Even with changing settings, i notice my battery dropping signifcantly during phone calls. Forget texting, or using any aps, the battery is dead within half a day

Shame on Apple. I am leaning towards scrapping my phone in favor of an android
