Dictation in iOS 7 barely works

I guess it's possible that this is another Apple-Server issue, but it seems way worse than it ever has been in the past.

I would say that about 80% of the time that I use dictation, the wheel just spins and spins...and then times-out

If I keep trying to get it to work, it eventually will....for a little while...and then it will fail again.

Apple, can you tell me what is going on and how it can be fixed?

Thanks so much...

In the spirit of being funny, tempting the fates, etc, I tried to dictate my post using Dictation -HA, little circle did iu't infinite loop thing...

I think Storico explained the situation very clearly; Verizon - iOS 7 - 4S, since the day of the upgrade, the degree of intermittence has rendered the voice to text feature consistently unreliable, therefore undermining any confidence I have in its usefulness. I am reminded of an old Apple tag line, I'm paraphrasing here; 'it isn't how powerful your technology is, it's how powerful it makes you' substitute powerful for productive and you get my drift. W the F Apple?!?

Please post a useful reply in this forum. I've tried each of the helpful suggestions of the other posters here. Please advise.

I've been experiencing the same issues on my iPhone 5 since upgrading to ios7. I had read something about Siri. Using a multipath TCP connection that splits it's data between wifi and cellular when possible. On a whim I tried turning off my WiFi and Siri (and dictation) started to work perfectly. Your mileage may vary, but give it a try.

It's been too long without Apple replying. I suggest we start also going to this Wall Street Journal report site and adding comments to the report on Apple iOS 7 bugs. If we get lucky, maybe the reporter will pick up on our comments and start investigating. If someone has a better site or person to contact I can put some pressure on Apple to respond, I welcome their information.

Apple is not likely to reply here. This is, in general, strictly a user forum. They do often monitor threads but are notoriously tight-lipped about bugs and fixes. They do sometimes pop in to comment or ask for more user data. I've been part of threads where they've done that.

My guess is this is one of many bugs they are working on - it's certainly not my biggest issue with iOS 7 - and hopefully a fix will be part of the .1 update.

It is a good idea to try and give it publicity elsewhere as well as report it directly as a bug to Apple. But don't take their silence here, in this user forum, as evidence they are ignoring it.

I'd like to note that I'm still having the same problems that are I and others have been noting here for weeks. Sometimes, dictation and Siri work perfectly; other times, it takes 15 to 30 seconds; and still other times the circle spins and nothing ever comes.

I have a new iPhone 5S, and have nearly perfect results using Siri and dictation with it.

Cautious optimism here. iPhone dictation seems to be working flawlessly at the moment. And it had been mostly on but partly off earlier before the update. I am dictating in long trunks and it is getting it. Have our supplications been answered? It's May will be. If so, many thanks to the Apple elves.

iPad updating now. Hope to have the same result there.
