alert style not working in ios7?

alert style not working in ios7?

Really need some advice if anyone has experienced this same problem and solved it.

I prefer to see my text message senders name pop up in the centre of my iphone 5 normally in a big blue square. I have recently upgraded to IOS7 but cannot get this alert to appear for text messages.

I have the alerts selected within messages but it always comes up at the top of the screen in one line not how I want it to appear.

Help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Please recheck Settings>Notification Centre>Messages

It does sound as if you have Banners selected rather than Alerts. If settings are correct it may be worth trying a system reset, hold down Sleep and Home buttons together until Apple logo is displayed.

I did a reset this morning after googling the problem but nothing has changed, it's really annoying me, lol.

i'll try another reset now.

Hi Bee,

Just tested this with iMessage - sending to myself, sad I know - with Alerts set for one message and Banners for the other, and I can confirm there is no difference for me on how these are displayed. Trying to recall how it would have appeared on iOS 6 and if it was any different, but really not sure to be honest. I do have an old iPhone 4 at home with I think iOS 6 on it, so will check that later if you like?

Just did another reset and it's still not working. It comes up witht the screen open on the icons but not while on lock mode

Okay without the lock screen on it comes up as expected as a alert but on the lock screen it comes up as a banner, getting somewhere now, must be a setting somewhere, arrggghhhh!

Hi Bee,

I've got the iPhone 5 and I've individually selected and changed Alerts to None, Banners and Alerts - Testing with a message or a call after both and it's made no difference, they are all displayed the same for me.

Hi Bee,

Thought I'd post what I get when I set an Alert Style of Alert for phone calls, and then an Alert Style of Banner as well. In both cases the phone screen looks like this for me:

Does yours look any different?

Yes that's the problem right there. I've got mins set on alerts but I get exactly that instead!

Bee,

After some testing it appears that Alerts only work as before as long as your device isn't locked. Give it a try, send yourself a iMessage and click the home screen and you'll see it either appears as a banner or an Alert depending on what you've selected.

Yeah that works as youve said. Shame because I loved the older way with the big blue box in the centre of the screen saying the persons name who has texted you! Guess that's not an option anymore, 😟
