Mail in iOS 7 changes default mail account after entering addresses?

I just noticed that the Mail app in iOS 7 changes the sent from email address from my default to another account I have after entering in the send to address. When I first create the new email the correct default email address is showing (iCloud) but after I add any send to address it changes to another account (Hotmail) as the sent from account.

I checked my settings and iCloud is still set as the default account, I can click and change it before sending the email but I think this may be a bug unless there is something I missed.

Anyone else have this problem?

iPhone 4, iOS 7

Firstly, this only happens when one composes while in "All Inboxes." If you are in a specific account, that account will be used for the "from" address.

So, composing in "All Inboxes". When the first (the only one that matters) "to" address is entered, it is checked to determine the last address used to communicate with that "to" address and sets the "from" address to match that communication. If no previous communication is found the default "from" address remains and is used.

If you are paying attention and do not want to use the last address, you can change it. If you change it, then, it becomes the last address and will be used the next time.

I have found no way to override this behavior, but, once understood, it is not difficult to live with.

Yes, it seems that it works the way you've described, which could be a a nice feature… BUT, the problem arises when you're sending to mulitple recipients. I never know which 'sent from' address it's going to pick, although generally as soon as I enter the first recipient's name, it'll pick one.

As long as Apple is going to use this method for choosing a 'send from' acct, they need to highlight or make it more obvious that 'mail' has picked an acct other than your default.

I just replied to a similar question on another of Apple's forum pages, but as so many of us have had this question, thought I'd paste in my solution here for everyone's benefit -------

I think I FINALLY solved the same problem -- after looking for solutions online for weeks.

I have two accounts, one for personal mail and one to interact with institutions/organizations/charities with. I noticed that almost every time I emailed my husband something from my photos (and some other things) the Apple email changed my default "send from" address (my personal one) to my institutional email, which I didn't want to happen. I sometimes forgot to individually change the "send" to my personal one. This also happened with a few other personal correspondents, getting their mail all mixed in with my two email addresses.

Yet, once in a while when I sent my husband AND others something from photos, I noticed the "from" address remained my personal (default) one. This led me to my solution. Today, I decided to delete my husband's email addresses from my contacts AND from every single "recent" group. When I re-entered his email addresses into my contacts list, I sent him a couple of test messages (forwarding photos as my test case), they came from the default (personal) address.

I hope this helps others! I live in a city with a big Apple store, but the folks there didn't know what to do about the problem when I brought it to their attention months ago.

Hi.

This problem only became apparent to me as I am wanting to delete an e-mail account but all of my e-mails were coming to me through hotmail even when I (thought) I had supplied new contacts with my iCloud address. This exchange of information was on slips of paper at college so no issue with the e-mail having been sent by me from the wrong box. Have read most of the thread had a play an seem to have cracked my problem. Working on a Mac so my not be relevant to smart phones and iPads.

Open mail

Top task bar select Mail>preferences

In new window select >composing

8 lines down reads 'send new messages from' select preferred address from drop down menu.

This didn't work first time but after I had closed the mail application and reopened it appeared to work fine, regardless of which inbox was highlighted when I was writing/sending the message.

Hope this helps everyone.
