Mail in iOS 7 changes default mail account after entering addresses?

I just noticed that the Mail app in iOS 7 changes the sent from email address from my default to another account I have after entering in the send to address. When I first create the new email the correct default email address is showing (iCloud) but after I add any send to address it changes to another account (Hotmail) as the sent from account.

I checked my settings and iCloud is still set as the default account, I can click and change it before sending the email but I think this may be a bug unless there is something I missed.

Anyone else have this problem?

iPhone 4, iOS 7

Nothing yet, though I had a look on twitter to see if many others were reporting the issue, and it seems some people think this is added functionality! The idea being that in ios7 the Mail has learnt which From address you use the most with each To address, and so as soon as you enter the To address it 'intelligently' chooses the normal From address.

Well if that is the case it doesnt work very well. I use my virgin.net email address 95% of the time, and yet after the To goes in it changes to iCloud. I even sent a dozen blank test emails from virgin.net (changing from icloud address manually before sending) to see if it could change the iPhones 'logic', but it didnt.

What is interesting though is that when I tried to email a different To address to my usual one I am testing, the default email did change from virgin.net but this time to my yahoo.co.uk account!

So I think there could be some truth in this being an intended change, but it certainly doesnt work well at all. If this is the case, I would like to know what logic the Mail app uses to determine the most suitable From address, and if there is a way to turn this 'funtionality' off! :-)

Thanks for the feedback. Personally I have different email adresses for diffrent purposes than segregating work and home emails. (My cautious employer won't let me connect to their mail server with private, "unsecure" devices.)

I have a new email adress with my domain name company that I would like everybody tobe aware of, whilst still receiving mails sent to the old one.

Also, my ISP does not support sending from their email adress through a WIFI modem other than the one they provided me, which forced me to send by default from the other mail.

Maybe I can set up the account linked to the "old" email to work only in reception ....

I agree that this is a bug. Under Settings, Mail the field Default Account SHOULD be the default mail account used whenever sending an email. Under IOS6 this worked flawlessly, Under IOS7, mail is going out under a different email account other than the Default. What's the purpose of the 'default account' field if it is not going to be used by the mail programs? This needs corrected. "added functionality"? No way!

You're not losing your mind. I've been having the exact same problem on my Iphone 5 with iOS7. Have tried everything suggested here and nothing works. What's more buzarre for me is it's not a consistent problem. Seems to happen with some of my contacts but not others. It's without question a bug. I'm sure you've discovered that it will let you change the "from" account by clicking on the incorrect one as you're addressing your email and scrolling to the account you wish to use. That's a bandaid, but until there's a fix for this bug it's what I've been having to do..

Add me to the list affected by this bug.

Steps to reproduce:

Select photo in Photos, hit share, select Mail. A message will be created with the photo attached, and from the default account. If I add any address to the TO area except the same one as the from, it's fine. If I try to send to myself at my default account, however, the FROM address is changed the to last one in the list alphabetically. I can change it back to the default, but I really shouldn't have to.

It doesn't do this if the compose happens in Mail, only in other apps using Mail from the share menu.

So how funny is it that when I start mail it defaults to my hotmail account? Not my last mail account that I used. Not the default (iCloud). Not the account at the top of my accounts (yes, I made sure Hotmail was not at the top of my accounts). Hotmail. Yes, I have 7.0.3. Yes, I have multiple accounts. Anybody else seeing Hotmail on opening mail?
