I live in Italy. 4 months ago I bought a iphone 5s from a guy who bought it in usa and said the phone is unlocked so i tested it and he was right. it works with any italian sim card . but today I went to apple store to change my phone to new one because the touch id was broken. they controled my phone and said me that my phone is locked to sprint in usa. so if they change it I'll recieve a locked phone. my question is: how is it possible that my phone be locked but works with any sim card and i always update it to the new ios and it works with no problem. so I'm afraid that if apple changes my phone I'll recieve a block phone which will not work like this one. I mean with italian sim card.

The warranty on the iPhone is not international anyway. I doubt that the Italian Apple Store would replace a phone purchased in the US. That is not how the warranty works. Sprint can unlock the GSM side of the phone for international GSM, and that is possibly what was done.

Actually it is international because they left me the estimate and it is completly free. But how can i ask

I'm surprised the Italian store said they will do that, because the warranty is not international, it is only in the country the device was purchased in, and that is in direct violation of standing Apple policy. The Italian store can do whatever they want as far as I'm concerned. However, I'm not here to debate that, just to provide facts that I'm aware of. You would need to contact Sprint. But I will tell you that unless you have been a Sprint customer in good standing for at least 40 days, they will not unlock the phone. That is their policy. Your only option is to try and contact Sprint and inquire about unlocking the device.

Well, you could Google for contact informtion, however as I said earlier, if you do not have a contract with them, are not a customer in good standing, they will not unlock the phone.

If your're not a Sprint customer, don't bother. They won't do it.

so, i'm kinda rewriting history here a year later with iPhone 6.

Tomorrow is the pre order, this is if i do manage to grab one.

I'm planning to get the T Mobile Contract Free and not activating it in any way, fly it back home in Indonesia, and hope for the best.

The phone should arrived on Monday September 22.

Fortunately we have become very handy in that department.

There are several shops here that are certified reseller and have good relation with apple HQ.

So far, my biggest two concerns are, getting the **** thing in the first place and activating it using my homeland sim card.

Planning to get it at San Fran, CA.

Your other problem is it will have to be initially activated on the T-Mobile USA system using the supplied nanoSIM and then have T-Mobile USA service for 40 days before it is eligible to be unlocked.

You may be pretty handy but have you come up with a method to activate it on T-Mobile USA in Indonesia?

Well, I'm going to repeat what Shilajit done last year.

Got the phone, didn't activate it, took it back to India and plug in his homeland sim card and activating it, it worked..

But reading from his report, he got his iPhone from Apple Store instead of from T Mobile.

There is a possibility of it won't work, which going to leave me with $750 brick or at least until someone handy from my homeland can do smthg about it.

Btw, I'm not the one whose handy, my people are rather...creative when it comes to this kinda thing.

I got my pre-order (yay!). Space Grey, 64 GB.

It said Delivers: 9/19.

Any of you know is that the date that is supposed to arrive at my house or is it the date that they started shipping?

My status is still Processing Order at the moment.

I ordered mine along with 2 adapted micro USB charger and for that one is already being shipped. I hope one order wont delay the other.
