Why ismy iPhone 4s switching from 3G to 1x randomly?

Somebody please HELP! So obviously when in areas lacking wifi, my iphone4s automatically connects to 3G.

For some reason, my phone will read "3G" and as soon as I try to use an app, it switches to "1X"

It just continues to switch back and forth randomly!

I've tried moving around with it, the service bars dont seem to make a difference.

I'm semi-tech-savy, but have limited experience on iPhones.

Thought maybe turning 3G off and on again, but can't seem to find an option to do so??

My mom is having the exact same problem on her 5s.

Anything to do with new iOS7 update?

Or maybe just our towers?

Any thoughts guys?!

Let me guess... You have Verizon, don't you? Call them. It's probably a network problem.

Guys. This is a know issue at Sprint. There are many threads but this one is the one i follow: https://community.sprint.com/baw/message/645413

Sprint says this issue affects about 80% of their Iphone5 customers who have upgraded to IOS7.0.3

Many of us on the sprint thread have had case tickets created. If you haven't already, please add your voice to this group and have Kris from tech support create a ticket for you.

Hope this helps. I feel your pain.

I am having the same problem. My issue started some months ago. Seems like all my problems started when iOS7 came out. In the beginning I started losing wifi connections. It got to the point that the warning email I had set up with Verizon started to kick in (never before). Then it progressed to my phone randomly rebooting. I'd say the rebooting has been about once every 3 days. I finally upgraded to the latest iOS7 with the hopes all my problems would be fixed. iOS7 didn't do anything. The phone cannot hold a wifi connection whatsoever and for the brief moment it does it is slow. I tried the support.apple.com pages on wifi troubleshooting. I have reset the network settings twice, etc. My router is new and everything else connects to it no problem. I know it is not my router because my phone also will not hold wifi connection at work anymore or my parents' house. I am at a complete loss and need some help. I guess I have to go to the apple store or something. I am beginning to doubt apple products. The more I read these forums and the snooty responses half the time, the more I have doubt about apple product quality and my choice to buy apple. I just want my phone to not randomnly reboot and the wifi to work so I dont get charged for data over use.

Hey so I've been having the same issues for about 3 weeks. I finally went to sprint yesterday and they told me that right after the update for some reasons some iPhone 5s stopped get service in particular areas. Also their sending me and all new iPhone 5 for free and my phone is not under warranty, the company screwed up so if u have this issue just go to the sprint store and hopefully a new phone will resolve this issue. Im not sure how a new phones going to help but we'll see. I hope everything works out!!

Hello everyone,

This is a problem with Verizon and Sprint Carries, the 1x everyone sees is something not all of iphone costumes are used to see, so let me explain.

The 1x is simply de representation of Edge (E) which is the 2G service from both carriers. Now, the iOS isn't a problem at all, the real issue is that as carriers start leaving and "deactivating" the 2G service it makes the CDMA phones to fluctuate from either 3G, 4G, LTE and then back to 2G. One thing that might help is taking the SIM card out and wait for about 10 minutes. When the time goes by before putting the SIM card back in restart the phone holding the Power/Home buttons. Then afterwards proceed to getting the SIM card back in place. All of this will make the phone search for the appropriate signal according to the device which in this case are iPhones.

In a brief summary, the 1x is just the 2G service either from Verizon or Sprint. Now, if this is really getting to be a problem to a point it starts affecting calls try the solution I leave here, if you still get it then you might reay want to reconsider having a serious talk with your provider or switch to another network. If you have any more questions, please let me know. I might be able to help.

Thanks for the info. But when we go to our carriers, they all point back to Apple as being the issue. Sprint keeps saying they are wainting on Apple for a software fix. I've been waiting since 7.0 and still nothing yet.

I just posted your comments mav356 into the Sprint forum that is usually monitored. Let's see what response I get now.

Thanks again.
