Phone numbers to IRS not working?

I'm having the same problem.

I wonder if the IRS has shut down their phone line because of the current budget standoff in Washington. (Specifically, the lack of compromise in debt and budget negotiations by congressional lawmakers.)

It's frustrating that the announcement I hear does not provide any reason why the phone service is not working. It also does not provide a specific time when the phone service will resume, if at all.

Does anyone know why the phone line is not working, or when service will resume?

The US Government is not shutdown, yet. They still have the weekend and a couple of days to stop it from happening if Congress wants to.

I see nothing on the IRS page that says anything about downtime for the 267-941-1099 international application line?

It does say "The hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday", but what is "local time" for an international caller - I'm assuming they mean EST (or EDT for now) as the 267 area code is in Pennsylvania.

I'm Eastern time zone here in Canada - no access either. Frustrating since all IRS "800" numbers are inaccessible from outside the US. Maybe things will change next Monday???

Same problem here! (I am calling from France, respecting the jet lag but it still doesn't work).

Are the US in a bankrupcy? I hope not. I still want to buy products from Apple designers 🙂!
