i cant delete music from my iphone since downloading iOS 7 i have tried synching it and making sure that i only download checked songs bt still wont get rid of them..can anyone help?

Have you tried FacetiousWalnut suggested? It worked for me when nothing else did. Happy not to have the annoying songs that the iOS 7 player stuck on my phone that I couldn't delete since I updated.

> I had this same problem - what I did was go to Settings --> General --> Usage --> Music. Once in music swipe to the left under "all music." This will allow you to delete all your music on your phone. Then go ahead and re-sync your selected music from iTunes. This was the only way I was able to sync my new playlists and delete some songs I didn't want on my phone. Hope this helps!

Actually, later when I synced my phone, the songs came back. I will need to continue to look for a solution.

I had to delete the album off of my Mac to get it off of my iPhone. There were three tracks which simply would not download from the store. Apple, why don't you come up with a way for customers to get rid of songs they don't want on their phones? Even unchecking the songs in iTunes did not work.

Good tip! After removing all music selections via iTunes and synching/backing up, my phone still showed that it had 12 GB of music on it - somewhere. Going to Settings//General//usage//Music//Edit//Delete Music finally cleared-out the "mystery music." 😉

Talking it over this morning my husband and I realized that we had stopped listening to the vast majority of our music because of an acretion of iTunes hassles - with kids and life. UGH.

Doing this removed the stray music from my iPhone that iTunes won't touch - those pesky things I imported from my CD collection that had been synched in earlier versions. And I turned off the cloud. My library of music is old and incomplete. I want to use my CD collection and I prefer to be able to buy music from whomever I want and to play things that we record at home. I am just super happy with your tip!

Now I am off to jog with my favorite music. Betcha you can guess how great that will feel!

In addition to removing the songs from your iphone, using below, you can also remove/hide songs purchased in iTunes. This way they will not appear later as downloadable with the cloud icon on your iphone. Since having kids who like to listen to music on my phone, I had to get ride of the "Explicit" lyrics songs I accidentally purchased through iTunes in the past! This finally worked!!

If you are having problems removing a song, this is because it is linked to iCloud which affects purchased songs. This method is for deleting songs that you could not delete using the previous method.

1. In this example, I am deleting the song, “Ribs”, by Lorde. Swipe left at the song and hit delete.

You will notice the song is still there in the music library. At this point, swiping left at the song again will do nothing.

2. Go to Settings -> Music – > Show All Music – Make sure this option is turned on

3. Go to iTunes Stores -> Purchased and re-download the songs you wish to delete by pressing the cloud button.

4 Go back to Settings -> Music -> Show All Music – Disable this option now

5. Open the music player and locate the song. Swipe left to delete. This time it will actually get deleted.

Next, remove unwanted songs from iTunes. This way they will not appear later as downloadable with the cloud icon on your iphone

Mac or PC

1. Open iTunes.
2. From the Library pop-up menu, choose Music.
3. Click Songs in the navigation bar.
4. Click the song you want to delete.
5. Press Delete on your keyboard.

In iTunes 11 or later, the album cover art will remain visible, but a Download icon will appear on it to allow you to download the item again (in countries that support this).

Note: If you didn't purchase a song from the iTunes Store, you can't download it again for free from iTunes in the Cloud. You might want to back it up somewhere on your computer.

I am exceptionally frustrated that the company that revolutionized the digital/portable music industry cannot figure out how to make their MUSIC PLAYING APP decent. Not only is it clunky to delete songs on your IOS system in order to clear up space on your phone, but hte playlist making/editing functionality is horrendous.

Apple, please fix this!

I did finally get my music deleted, i had to go to Settings->general->usage then swipe left on music and delete. very clunky, and quite bad form.

Hello all.

I'm still unable to solve this problem. I did the "disable show all" -> wipe all music data (from the settings>usage menu) -> re-enable show all and the "grey" tracks still appear. The thing is: I don't use iTunes Match and never have I bought a track form the iTunes store (these are my own tracks, on my Mac's hard-drive and iTunes library that once I put on my iPhone and now I don't want anymore). Obviously, that iCloud icon to download the tracks and then delete them doesn't show next to the items simply because I do not have any tracks on iCloud.

Am I seriously going to have to restore all my iPhone to get rid of those tracks? Not sure, but I think this happened with a messy syncing syncing with the Mac once.

This does not work - even after following the instructions AND putting my iPhone in airplane mode, the songs still show up. And what's more maddening is when I try to swipe left to delete, it doesn't work but just ends up playing the song I want to delete. that's kinda lIke rubbing salt in my wounds, thanks apple. Someone please fix this crap it used to be soooo good!

same problem here. i cannot remove music but one-by-one, which is no option given the fact i have 7000 tracks on my phone.

in order to keep my music library up to date, i have to restore my iphone. every single time.
