How to change color of text bubble
Ick, every message I send has a hideous green background. I should like a soft purple. How can I change this?
I guess I don't mind the gray of my correspondent, but that green is barfy.

I soooo agree. The neon green text bubble is awful on the eyes. I am prone to migraines and I can't look at that color without it triggering a headache. Did circus clowns on crack decide on that color? It's simply awful.
Come to think of it, the whole IOS7 is simply awful. What a disappointment.

I really wish u could change ur bubble colors and background in imessage instead of have to down load apps to do so and have to copy and paste as well. I wish that apple will do there next updates so u can be able to change ur colors to whatever u want and be able have a background in ur imessages. Like androids u can change ur bubble colors and have a background for ur text messages. I seen as well only way to change the bubble colors is by jail house breaking ur phkne but i don't want to do that cause it's not good for ur phone.

Seriously? There's no way to do this in iOS7? Requests for this go back years.....
Hello,
To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to change the colors of the text bubbles. It would be nice if we could.
You can change the green to blue by stopping using SMS and start using iMessage. The Messages app uses those colors to indicate to you how a message is snt from your device. Green means SMS, Blue means iMessage. Of course, iMessage uses your data plan and not your SMS message plan, and iMessage basically only works to other iOS users who are also using iMessage.
Thanks to you both. Well...hardly anyone I know has an iPhone, so the iMessage isn't really an option.
All I can find is directions to jailbreak the phone and I'd rather not hassle with that.
Looked at some apps but they all seem to come with ads.
No idea why this is not available on the iPhone when so many people have asked for it.
My son told me I would regret choosing this OS. I argued with him, told him I was over 50 and had no reason to jailbreak an iPhone.
Boooooyah!
i simply refuse to upgrade to IOS 7 till they decide to do something with this i tried it on another phone and was way to harsh on my 50 year old eye balls
Hi GeekBoy,
Just a clarification - iMessage only uses cellular data if you are using it on a cellular network. If you are using it on Wifi, it's free....
Cheers,

hahaha, dot2222, circus clowns on crack about describes that nasty green color. I am soooo disappointed. This is my 1st smartphone and it doesn't even have that basic functionality - changing colors on text messages, which is one the main features of a smart phone. I had a "dumb" phone for years and held out for an iPhone since I was so in love with my iPod. Husband & son got different brands and theirs seem so much easier to set up & run.
For example on iphone pix, I have to install something special to see those pix from iCloud on a Win PC. It's just all these extra steps. AFAIK my guys just go to a web address, done.
Can't really comment on the whole iOS7, since I only had my phone about 3 weeks before iOS7 came out. It doesn't look too terribly different than what was there before, honestly. I had to find out the different way to kill apps running in the background and the calendar is a bit different. Can't say it's better or worse since I was only using it for about 3 weeks. But I can see how folks who were using another version for several years might be upset.
steveb63, what are you saying the text background was changeable in earlier versions? Everything I've read on the net says folks have been asking for this for ages.
All I can think is something is seriously horked in the underlying code for texting, how it was originally designed, and it would be a huge undertaking to change it. I do have a programming background and colors are just a hex string...if this color got hardcoded into every module that is still no excuse. I bet they hardcoded the color to do with the billing of SMS vs iMessage or something stupid like that. God forbid the billing gets screwed with.
LOL, don't know the color is harsh due to the age of my eyeballs. It's harsh due to my aesthetic of how I want my screens to appear, which Apple kinda pioneered back in the day and then we're left with this...barfy color.
Honestly, I expected to be able to assign different colors to all of my favorite contacts.
Come on Apple. You are a highly regarded phone manufacturer with equally high regarded software development capabilities, yet you do not offer the facility to allow users to make changes to some really irrattating features of OS 8. As a partially sighted user i find the green speech bubble really difficult to see. Please, please can you fix this problem with an urgent update to iOS 8?
You are responding to a post that is over a year old. Also, Apple is not here - this is a user to user forum. If you'd like to share your thoughts with Apple, do so here:
Best of luck,

How do you turn SMS on as I am sick of the blue color and wish to have green.
