After doing iOS 7 update on iPad 2 I'm now locked out by a passcode. PLEASE HELP

I did the iOS 7 update on my special needs son's ipad2 which he uses daily, and now its locked the screen with a passcode! I've never had a passcode before so I have noises how to unlock the screen! I have tries generic codes like 0000 & 1234, and even other random numbers just in case, but to no avail (other than to disable the iPad from trying too many passwords!!)

My son uses this every day for practicing his fine motor skills and many other therapies and I need to get this working again ASAP, please help!!

I tried to do a backup, thinking worst case scenario I'll restore to factory settings and then sync it from my latest backup but it wouldn't let me do a backup.

I notice there is now an iOS 7.0.2 update available, my hopes soared when I saw this this morning, thinking it would be a fix for this passcode lock since I've seen online that many people are having the same issue, but it says it fixes the ability for people to BYPASS this passcode lock!!

I only WISH I could bypass the stupid thing!

I can't understand why it would put a passcode lock on a device without letting you know somehow what the passcode IS!

Very very frustrated and worried that my son can't use his iPad

PLEASE HELP?!

Thank you :)

I actually ended up calling apple and got a very helpful young man who ran me through the steps to fix it

This worked perfectly (except for losing all my apps!) but I think gay was actually due to having to update iTunes for the iPad to sync with latest iOS update..

But all sorted now thank you :)

I've just experienced the same problem.. After "upgrading" to IOS 7 on my iPad 2, it locked me out and asked for a password. However, I have never used a password. Turns out if you have not recently backed up your data to another computer, you will lose it all (as I did) during the "restore" process that resets everything to the factory defaults. I now have to reload all my programs, data, etc. When I called Apple support, I discovered that Apple has been deluged with calls about this bug for MONTHS. but have failed to inform customers and warn us of the problem. Unbelievably bad customer service. Please spread the word since Apple isn't stepping up to the plate.
