Trying to update OS X so I can use latest version of ITunes to upgrade to iOS 7. Have older MACBOOK (2008 Black). What version of OS X do I need to make this work??

The latest version of iTunes requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later, so you'll need to upgrade from your current OS to Snow Leopard (10.6.x) or Lion (10.7.x) and apply the latest software updates.
You can still find Snow Leopard media online at places like Amazon.

That gets you to 10.6.8, and access to iTunes 11.1, which is the minimum iTunes version for iOS 7 devices. iTunes 11.1 supports 10.6.8 and later.
