Why isnt home sharing working?

I am new to Home sharing and want to transfer some music between my macbook pro, Macbook air and Ipad mini. I have turned on homesharing on all three and made sure that I have the same Apple Id, and that Sharing the libraries is turned on on both Macs. But no libraries show up in my itunes.

How do I check to find out if the computers are recognizing each other? I only have one network and have turned the router on and off and turned everything on and off several times. Please explain any fixes in detail as I am not computer savvy and won't know where things are.

Thanks so much!

Katarina

ps. I have read tons of earlier posts and applied everything that i understood how to apply with no luck.

Each router has a way to access it, usually via a web page looking interface. The Apple AirPort Extreme/Express though have a dedicated application that runs on the computer. But it sounds like you are using a router other than Apple's. No problem. They usually require you to open your web browser and enter an address like 192.168.1.1 or something like that. What is the make and model of the router you are using?

Winston is right, you certainly don't want to turn off your firewall. But I have seen it where ports do have to be opened and forwarded on other routers for iTunes and other Apple features (mostly with their Server app).

My concern is that your ISP will have no idea how to make your itunes sharing work and they probably will consider that outside their service for your system. I also am concerned they will screw it up worse becuase they don't know what they are doing. Their obligation is to get you the internet connection to/from your house. That's about it. Anything else, they will leave to you. Figuring out why your router won't allow internal sharing is not their concern, so I doubt you will get much help. Anyway...

Drop me the make and model of your router and I will see if I can find how to access it and easily see if those ports are blocked or not and how to open them. Chances are, there's a YouTube video on exactly how to do it.

You are so right about how little the Isp was able to do. But nonetheless, their suggestion, which was that they gave me a new router, worked!!!

So the old router, which I only had for a year, must have been older than that and was the problem.

Thank you so much for your help though, it would have been wonderful to have it if I needed it!

You may be right. The first representative was just trying to get me to go away and did nothing for 45 min. The second one worked nonstop for 45 min and when I asked her if this happened regularly she said she had never had a case of it.. But then she suggested changing the router as a last attempt .

It's a terrible ISP in general anyhow.

I am just glad it works now and very grateful for your support!

Okay folks am gotta keep this short sorry! I had myself in the same place after just a simple update failed to install properly......

Here's how to fix...... simply uninstall Bonjour, Apple Mobile Devices Support, Apple Application Supportand of courseiTunes after all this has been done head over to App "C:\Users\Stephen\AppData\Local", "C:\ProgramData", "C:\Program Files (x86) & "C:\ProgramData" Delete everything to do with the programs that have been uninstalled but be careful not to delete any iCloud stuff or Safari as its a pain in the arse to go and repair. Just for good measure run a Desktop Cleaner or manually delete your temp folders to help make sure the reinstall is clean as possible.

After All that has been done Restart PC and Download a nice fresh install of iTunes 11.1 and run as normal and all should be good if you need to agree to the terms and conditions again....

Just FYI I found it to be the "iPod Module (64x)" that fail to install correctly with already having a previous version install which seem to create all the problems with the firewall...User uploaded file

You appear to be posting this in response to a range of different issues being reported. I have no doubt it fixed a problem for you and it may help others with the same problem, however it couldn't fix all of the issues you are responding to and it isn't clear what your original symptoms or problem was.

In order that your information might be of use to others could you provide some detail about what problems it was that you were having.
