Help my fingerprint lock is not working
Are you having trouble setting it up? Or problems unlocking your device? and you're having trouble unlocking your device?
I was having same problems, fingerprint would work for a couple days then gradually stop. I even had all 5 saved fingerprints the same thumb, same problems. Finally discovered a fix that worked.
The problem was how I was scanning my fingerprints in. I was keeping my thumb mostly centered and moving just slight variations as iphone recognized the fingerprint pattern. Instead, I wiped clean all 5 fingerprints and started over, but this time I moved my thumb around alot, sometimes getting just half the thumbprint, sometimes the edges of thumb. Did all 5 saved fingerprints this way using same thumb.
It's been 2 months now and recognition works first time every time!
I have the same problem. However, both my husband and dad have stored their prints on my phone and after a month have no problems!! They think it might be the amount of electricity (for lack of the correct term) in my thumb vs theirs. Anyone heard of that???
After 48 hours or after restarting your iPhone, you must type your password. Also, with the iPhones fingerprint scanner, taking a shower, using lotion, exercising, and/or doing other activities involving your hands may cause your fingerprint to seem to change, causing the iPhone to think the fingerprint is incorrect. Hope this helps.
me too 😟 what shuld i do???
Ditto, plus now I can't even enter a new fingerprint. It immediately says operation failed....
So I too was having this problem before and after the iOS update. Sometimes when your fingers are clean it won't work. I know it sound weird but you need the natural oils secreted by your skin on your finger. So even after you wash and dry your hands and try to open your phone it might not open due to the lack of oils. I actually found this out when putting my fingerprints in the setup. It recognized my left hand but not my right. So I studied my ridges and realized my left thumb looked oily and "darker" and more detailed and my right thumb did not. So I rubbed my thumb on my forehead to collect some oils and bam it worked.
Think of it like crime scene. In order to lift a finger print you need to dust it. It order to dust for a print there needs to be the natural oils that is secreted by your body so the powder can stick to it! Oh my I feel like such a genius! Hope this helps!!

SAme problem with my iPhone5s. I have done all the troublshooting suggested by the Apple link but after 2 or less days it stops recognizing my print. I think I have reached the point of not using the feature at all, it is just too frustrating.
CLeaning the button works only for a short time Too. i've been doing it almost every time I open the phone. also, considering that this feature is to save time when unlocking the phone, to clean the button or repeatedly and unsuccessfully trying to do just that does quite the opposite. I am close to being done with it.
Mine never worked well, I have reset, hard reset, retored and nothing worked. In frustration I bought a replacement button off ebay and fitted it only to find that the sensor itself is keyed to the CPU so replacing the sensor will not work unless Apple itself does it. In the end I just refitted my original apple home button and guess what, now it works fine. No idea why it should but it does. I found a youtube guide to replacing the button. Also, when i had the button out and the ebay one in I powered the phone on to check function and then powered it off to replace the original. Not sure if that any any effect but I suggest you simply power the phone off remove the button, then power it on, then off again then replace the button. Taking it apart may void the apple warranty but if its already expired that wont be an issue. Good luck

• Dear All
i had some problem with my touch ID and it was locked, completely out of work and no response.
Possible reasons
* New IOS update and too many load on chip.
* Fake cable - loose cable - teared/weared cable or fake charger use. can strongly cause problem.
* And many different physical & mechanical & electronical effects.
Solution
* Get new cable ( or to try borrow from friend ) and use it with original charger to charge you phone.
Steps to do this,
1. Put your phone Battery Safe Mode
2. use it in battery safe mode always ( even it is full charged )
3. During this time always charge your phone with original cable & and charger
4. Optional : you can shut down your Phone and full charge it for some time.
5. it is starting to work again. this worked for me after 1-2 months brake.
6. In 2 or 3 days it will work for you also.
7. After that do not use 3rd party chargers. and do not turn off the battery safe mode for 5s & may for 6.
I will update the situation again.
issue fixed with this on 19th of Feb and today is 21st of Feb 2016, still there is no issue.

Cleaning did the job for me. Thanks. I had the same problem, could not even add a new fingerprint. It worked smoothly after cleaning with a soft cloth that I use for glasses.
I had the same issue after updating to 10.1.1, all was ok until one day when I charged the phone from 45% charge. My iPad had battery drained without even using it and same with my iPhone 5s. Adamant to downgrade, I've put the phone in dfu mode, but ran into issues with the downgrade (apple stopped signing below ios 10) and gave up the whole process. After restarting the phone, my fingerprint scanner came back to life and battery held up it's part of the deal. I went through the same process with my iPad and battery stopped draining for no reason. So far so good. I was never a strong believer in os upgrades as residual old software never disappears from memory and somehow finds it's way back into the system and war breaks out between old and new software, hardware carries the brunt. I still believe that fresh installs work better. It worked for me on two devices and all running good, but I'm still very nervous for what already happened.
Good luck
My Iphone 6 has just begun doing this.. Very annoying. I will however, try some of the tips that are suggested here..I will post back.
