Why won't my songs transfer from itunes to my iphone?

When I plug in my phone into my computer and try to sync my playlists on iTunes to my iPhone, the sync completes but the songs will not transfer. I even tried deleting the existing playlists from my iPhone and I couldn't even do that. I have literally tried everything that I know. Any suggestions?

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.2

I figured it out! A million hours later and 4 in the morning but I figured it out. So I did everything updated my iPhone 7 newest software same w iTunes on my windows computer everything. Nothing worked. Until I had to go to my actual iPhone go to settings, music, then turn off iCloud Music Library and enable home sharing. Then once I did that I went back onto my computer went to iTunes and synced manually. All I did was on iTunes go to your phone section and click sync. Once I did so I was then able to add music. I dragged the music to the device and it was finally added. I domt know what's going on w apple and why it's become so much harder to sync music. It was so much easier back in the day. Anywho I'm just glad I finally figured it out. Now I can listen to my hypnobirthing tracks on my phone.

Has anyone seen this problem: I was able to get my songs to my iphone 5 but on about 25% of the songs, only a portion of the song transferred. I have many songs that show the correct play time but a portion of the song is blank air time...

There doesn't seem to be any pattern. Some songs from a certain artist are fine others have blank time. And the blank time varries from song to song. sometimes as much as 1/2 the song, sometimes as little as 10 seconds.

Any ideas? I'm growing very frustrated with the latest Apple updates.

I was able to finally find the answer!

If you go to your iPhone/iPad/iPod go to the ACTUAL Music App (not settings).

On the bottom of the app select the "More" button.

Select the "Shared" option (picture of a house with a music note in ti).

Check off the name of the playlist of your iTunes Library and not that of your device. In my case, I had my iPhone checked instead of the name of my iTunes Library. When I selected the iTunes Library, I got all of my songs and got rid of the grey circles!

Hope this helps! Now someone translate in French to help our buddy (finalnichols) from France thats having this issue...

I tried everything and nothing worked except for one! Go to your itunes on your computer and you'll see a bunch of options on top that says File Edit View etc. Go to File and go to Home Sharing and turn on your home sharing. Once you turn that on, go to your phone and go to your music app. Go to More and click on Shared and click on *your name's Library.

And it'll transfer your songs on your computer into your phone/ipod/ipad!

OH my gosh...this did it for me also!!!

Apple you really need to return to the basics and make things simple. I spoke to the Apple support people and they did not know about this fix

I have spent the past few days trying to get my songs out of itunes into my iphone. I had the same issue (grey dotted circle but songs would not download)

There are WAY TOO MANY settings and hidden functions in the IOS and Itunes makes this even more complicated. This all needs to consolidated into a single control area of IOS, instead of splitting things up between Icloud, Itunes, IOS etc etc.

1 Anything stored on your phone, should be managed by the phone only

2 Anything stored on the computer should be managed by the computer only

3 Anything stored on icloud should be managed by icloud only.

ALL TRANSFERS between the above should be managed by the apple ID

4 -If a user wants to back up anything on their device it should back up to itunes and to icloud and to the computer (identically and at the same time) this feature should not cost extra and should be automatically built into the price of the phone. 64gb phone = 64gb backup in icloud

5- there should be no restriction on what is being backed up (i found out the hard way that itunes does not back up music (I had 50gigs of wav files disappear)

6-Simplcity and useful tips should be a fundamental element on any button or selection in itunes or icloud. Most of us have spent days trying to figure out what buttons do and what selection boxes do. If you showed helpful tips or help files with useful information we would not have to spend days and days researching the web to find a solution.

7 Family sharing is a mess and should be consolidated better. If I want to share my data with family it should be managed by my Apple ID plain and simple.

If we wanted something to be this complicated I would move to Android which is now actually less complicated in some areas.

We have multiple Ipads, Iphones and now Apple watches that we use in our family and in our business. It has become ridiculous to manage all the devices and share the information with ease.

I am very disappointed 😟

Search me, though I do know that writing software that works on your own computer is hard enough. Getting it to work reliably on millions of others all with slightly different combinations of installed software and hardware is where it gets really tricky. My general purpose workaround when you get the greyed out tracks issue is covered back on the previous page: Re: Re: Why won't my songs transfer from itunes to my iphone? Interference may come from anti-virus software which I would recommend be excluded from monitoring the iTunes library and media folders. Other than that there is unfortunately no obvious mechanism in iTunes to scan for these items and either transfer them properly on the next connection, or clean up the list that would suggest that they have already been copied even though they are not accessible.

This appears to happen when I add music after I've initially synced my phone for music. Here are some things that I have noticed:

  • I have iTunes Match, but disabled on the iPhone I am syncing too.
  • This happens often enough that I need to restore the phone.
  • A restart of iTunes sometimes rectifies the issue.
  • This occurs for both music downloaded from other sources, and music that is downloaded from the iTunes Store.

I suspect it has to do with the Sync Database. I also notice that automatic syncs seem to work on their own, but that would represent my 3rd bullet item, since I often have my computer at work, and then bring it home. After that phone syncs over Wi-Fi.

I suspect this is an issue with iTunes, solely and not with your device; therefore I suggest either restarting iTunes when this occurs. Reinstalling iTunes maybe be warranted also.

Here's what worked for me. I've had this issue a few times, between iOS 6-8 and iPhone 5S to 6 (just today with the new phone).

FIRST - BACKUP FIRST

  1. Make sure your iPhone/iPad/iPod is backed up using iTunes. Use the cord (not WIFI).
  2. Be sure to "Transfer Purchases" as well.
  3. Sync and backup the device.

NEXT - FIX MUSIC SYNCING ISSUES

  1. Now, in iTunes, highlight the device, click the "Music" tab, and uncheck (click to uncheck) the "Sync Music" check box.
  2. Sync again.
  3. Then, turn off the device and restart it.
  4. Also close iTunes and restart the computer.
  5. When everything is ready, open iTunes and Sync the device again.
  6. After this time, highlight the device in iTunes, click the "Music" tab, and check (click to check) the "Sync Music" check box.
  7. Uncheck all of the previous music items in the list below the check box. Try only one playlist, artist, or album in the beginning.
  8. Sync again and you'll see it works.

Hope this works for you!

Here I want to share how I transfer music from iPhone to itunes or back:

  1. On the summary tab of your iTunes sync settings check "Sync only checked songs and videos"
  2. In your music library check all the songs you want to sync to your phone
  3. Make sure there are no exclamation points next to any of the songs you want to sync to your phone
  4. Make sure you have authorized your computer for all Apple IDs for purchased music you want to sync to your phone (in Store>Authorize This Computer)
  5. Check "Sync Music" on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings
  6. Sync your phone

Guys i wrote on this post before for solution but i found this on the internet and really it worked for me. problem is that u have too many musics and artworks of those. So here is the solution(I have copied the solution because link may die later:

Glitch: Syncing music takes a long time or won’t work

A few people have run into an issue after the iOS 8 update where they’ve installed iOS 8 and had to restore the device, and the process takes a very long time to sync (24 hours or more), or appears to hang indefinitely.

Workaround:

If you have a large number of tracks with artwork then it could be the culprit. Try deleting the artwork from your library and sync again.

Potential solutions:

  • Load up iTunes and find your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch in the left column. Choose it then look under Summary at the Options section to find Manually manage music and videos. If it’s already check then try unchecking and re-checking it. You may need multiple syncs to get it to work. You may also have to toggle iTunes Match off under Settings > Music on your iPhone.
  • You can also try connecting the device to your computer and firing up iTunes. On the device go to Settings > General > Usage > Manage and delete all the music. In iTunes go to the Music tab and uncheck Sync Music then apply. Now check the Sync Music box again and it should sync up correctly.

For removing artworks of songs:

Select all the tracks in the library, right click > get info > then click the tick box next to 'artwork' (so it shows a tick)

Press OK.

iTunes should now change every track to include no artwork.

The alternative of this method (the only method I can find on the web) only works if you have specifically told iTunes to download the artwork. This can be done by selecting all tracks > right clicking > clear downloaded artwork.

SOLUTION

This solution probably won't help everyone, because I can see multiple problems in different posts here, but common one:

  1. Plug in iPhone
  2. Go to iTunes
  3. Click on iPhone icon
  4. Go to Summary
  5. On the right bottom part of the screen click on "Select music and video manually"
  6. Accept / Apply changes

Probably a warning that this will erase all your actual music from iPhone will pop up. Accept :-( - it will.

Now you can go to your Music Library in iTunes and just drag and drop what you need to the leftside where your iPhone device will pop up when you drag.

Why this happens?

iPhone can sync only with one Library (come on Apple! Its 2015!!!!!)

iTunes saves it's library files on the drive. When it can't reach its' files, it will get corrupted. Especially if you have files on external drive, you gonna get screwed sooner or later. When you plug iPhone in, it will think it's completly new library => hence it won't add the files.

Why won't my songs transfer from itunes to my iphone?
