My cd drive will not import a lot of my CDs to my itunes. it will go fine until one track where it wont work, it gets stuck and i have to force quit. It happens on cds that have some scratches on it but they should still be fine to import. They are not that bad. Thank you for your time.

My first thought is that your audio CDs may be scratched and unreadable to the drive. Are the CDs that won't import more scratched than the ones that imported successfully?
I had the same problem. I tried to upload a bunch of CDs and the first two were fine. One the next two, iTunes didn't freeze, but the progress bar didn't move at all and my macbook made a whirring sound on and off. I had to force quit and after the second time stopped uploading CDs altogether. I have a superdrive by the way.
I have a super drive and have the same problem. I think it's just the cd's need to be in top condition or it sticks. It's a bing pain when i does. Any other thoughts
same thing happened to me too. one of the cds even worked in my friends macbook with a combodrive. ive gone through two macbooks and both have the problem you all are describing. im glad im not the only one and hopefully they will do something about this.
I just had to reply because my name is also Greg L and my MacBook with Superdrive was also giving me problems. What are the odds? =)
If the geniuses at the Apple Store weren't so darn accomadating (they let me trade in my MacBook with Superdrive for a combo drive MacBook, and reimbursed the difference - all in one visit) - I would hate Apple for releasing such a horrible flawed product. Fortunately, they seem to be committed to customer satisfaction, for some strange reason. =)
They'll really take a beating if they have to recall all these drives though...
Hi. This may or may not apply... but i just bought my macbook and have had a terrible time importing CDs. All my old ones just freeze the thing up. It's already been back to the shop where they replaced the drive... didn't work. so went into the shop with my cds and this is what we found out...
all my oldish cds work fine on Cd players, PCs, G4s, G5s and PowerMacs... but not on any MacBook or PowerBooks. So the guy at the shop figures there's some hardware or firmware issue with the computers themselves. So i've complained to the apple people here in Japan. They're either gonna come back to me with a fix or i'm getting my money back. sad but true. the thing just doesn't import my music and i've got hundreds of CDs i need to get onto the thing.
I too am facing the problems of importing CD's. This is really ticking me off because I decided to upgrdae and go with the SuperDrive. It's not a case of scratched CD's either. I have two brand new CD's and half the time my MacBook won't even recognize it and shoot it back out and the other times it freezes up while importing. I want to get these songs onto my iPod but can't. I could import them using my desktop but its a PC and my iPods not formatted for that. I came to this post hoping that there would be tips on how to fix this problem, but it just seems like everyone else is facing the same exact thing. Hopefully Apple creates a fix for this, without having to exchange.
i have the same problem. and the thing is, the same cds wont work on any superdrives, whether if its in a macbook pro or mine or another macbook. i tried a bunch at the apple store. but they still work in a combo drive. strange
