how to take a screenshot using new ios7 on iphone 5.
I used to be able to do it in ios6 but when I updated to 7 It doesn't seem to work. I hope they didn't get rid of it as I require the abillity for one of the apps I use.

It is the same procedure, of quickly tapping the Home button and the On/Off button at the same time. If this doesn't work, a reset may help.
Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.
On my phone it works the same way it always worked. Press and release HOME and SLEEP at the same time.
That's what I would have thought, but every time I have tried it, my phone will just shut down, or siri will come on. I've tried reseting the phone and It will not work. As a matter of fact, I just tried it while writing this note and it still will not give me a snapshot of the screen.
It is possible you have a hardware issue with your home or power button.
My 10-month old Iphone 5 has the same issue with ios6 and now 7. Screenshot works very inconsistently, usually goes back to main screen or to Siri. I'd thought it was a User Issue (meaning me) but guess it's time to take it in.
Thanks guys... When someone mentioned a possible home button problem, I tried to push the home button on the lower end and the sleep button. It worked. This was the only app that I have ever had a problem with. I may still take it in to have them give it a "once over".
There is a much easier way to take your screen-shot.
go to settings
tap general
scroll down to accessibility
scroll down to assistive touch
turn it on
you will now have a semi transperent button on your screen
when you tap this you will get options of voice control, favourites, device, home
you need to tap device, then more, then screenshot. DONE
just tap in the center of the menu to go back and close the button,
it will stay on your screen until you switch it off, i leave mine on all the time.
you can move it around anywhere your like and it will show on all screens.
And that is easier then pressing and releasing both buttons? Whatever.
Thanks uplink1001!!!! This is awesome!
I came across this thread because my iPhone 4s was no longer taking screen shots by depressing both buttons. I found that it works, at least on my phone, if I press the sleep button first and then press the home button and release both.
Thank you uplink1001! I've been having the same problems with my phone's power button and have not been able to take screen shots until I read your post.
Okay. I'm not sure why this is so difficult.
Step 1: look at your phone.
Step 2: click the power button and home button
at the same time for just a second.
Step 3: there is no step three because BOOM,
you now have a screenshot.
The problem is not the difficulty. Its that te Home & Power Button combo no longer works on quite a few people's devices, including my own.
works perfectly on my iphone 5 and iOS 7.0.4
you have to hold it for a second or so.
Just depress both buttons swiftly and briefly and you will achieve your desired result. Holding them down launches other functionality, so just click them simultaneouly.
