Most of apps (except Chrome) can't connect to the Internet

Safari, App Store, iTunes, and other applications can't connect to the Internet.

I've seen my proxy settings and they are all unchecked.

I've done a reset on my router and still no progress.

Safari keeps showing "can't establish a secure connection to the server...". Internet connection seems to be working fine because Chrome loads any website with no errors. Also, I've used my phone, tablet, PC to test the internet connection and they all got connected.

iTunes and App Store won't even connect. Now I can't buy and update apps, music, etc.

How can I be able to solve this problem? 😟

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Hi Guys,

Good day!

I have exactly the same problem. Tried all the workarounds posted here but no avail.

Also tried to install the combo updates and uninstall recent purchases to app store but also no avail.

Unfortunately, I'm a GLOBE TELECOM subscriber and having exactly the same problem with you guys.

Now i'm using internet at my office (not GLOBE)and now mac app store, itunes app store, safari and other apple apps working perfectly fine now. I can assume it is GLOBE's who has the problem. I don't want to call Globe CS because they are so terrible and the time you spent talking with them is not worthit. I hope this will be addressed by Globe TELECOM.

I tried everything like setting auto date and time, installing security update 2015-004, played with keychains, deleted my login keychains, make the keychains of "class 3 public" as trust always , created new admin user, unistalled sophos and little snitch and lot other but nothing worked ................FINALLY i stumbled on this http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/110940/only-chrome-can-access-the-inter net

found that i couldnt ping or curl it was icmp time out

SO for me it was dnsresponder problem...........

followed this — need to restart mDNSResponder after every boot up “https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3514492” to restart my DNS & IT WORKED (i have osx 10.9.5)

It gave me error when i said to unload dns, but when i gave this second command

sudo launchctl load -F /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist

seems it wasnt loading on reboot

it loaded the dns and now i can use safari , app store etc

i dont know yet if i have to reload mDNSResponder on reboot or not.. i've to check that later

dont know why chrome was able to connect to internet without this dns and other apps can't?????

Any way i'm done with this after wasting lot of time............

Hope this will help someone

As we have found the solution using Comments, here's the formal response.

Whenever you experience issues with Safari, App Store, iTunes and any other service that uses the "same" WebKit, but seem to see no problem in Google Chrome or Firefox, it's good to check if you have your Proxies configuration clear. Since sometimes Chrome (and Firefox) override these settings (for their own multi platform stuff), they may work while the formers fail.

This is easily checked by opening Safari -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Proxies (Change Settings).

Make sure Autodiscover is not checked. It should probably look all empty like this:

User uploaded file

if some of them have been chosen, just make them clear. Then apply this change and try to re-open your safari to check.

My issues were solved by this method!!

Most of apps (except Chrome) can't connect to the Internet
