Why Does Safari Web Content Constantly Quit & Re-Boot?

OK Allan, here it is, (& Just before I was about to paste this, Safari re-booted yet again, for perhaps the 30th time today!)...

Now, there's some programs running I don't know if I need or want, like perian, growl, houdah spot helper, iTunes helper, etc, and I have no idea why there are two Dropbox apps showing. Also, I realized this incessant re-freshing didn't happen until I installed 5.1.9, so I looked into how I could downgrade back to 5.1.7 or 8, whichever would be more stable.

But in doing so, I discovered one of my only enabled extensions, ClickToPlug is way, way outdated, yet, when I hit the update extensions button, it kept saying everything was, so I manually downloaded the most current one, and will install it, soon as I close out Safari.

I also don't know why I can't get Java to keep opening itself back up, after I close it, plus, it's deselected in my preferences, so it's not supposed be running at all, any idea what's up with that? thanks....

Well John, it's great that y ou are that aware of which programs wreak havoc with most Macs, now my question is, if this is true, why aren't there a list of top programs to avoid? It would make sense for Apple to post such lists, as would sure save them big bucks in having their tech support deal with so many screwed up systems, and help make more of their customers/users happy with their machines. Also, more experienced experts as yourself, would be doing the majority of users who simply want their Macs to do what they do, a huge favor, by posting a list of products to avoid, as well.

Why should each individual user wait until their experience becomes so frustrating they must turn to discussion groups for answers, and then be told to painstakingly disable all extensions, then plugins, then third -party programs, etc., when given a little forewarning of which software to avoid, could save everyone from so much time & energy wasted?

You sound so sure of the danger of some of these very popular programs, and if this is in fact true, why keep it close to your vest? Most regular users do not see every cool program, many found on Apple's own extension gallery, and on various reputable online sites, as "modifications to their system", but as avenues to accomplish various tasks. It seems that for trouble- free operation, one should use as bare- bones a machine as possible, according to advice as yours. If this were true, why would Apple have it's own App Store, and encourage people to buy more & more of the plethora of software programs, much of it "third-party", avialable there? Is this not a conflict of interest, if their interest is truly in maximizing their customers' positive experience?

I hardly think John's condescending response could be aptly characterized as "thoughtful". He was in effect, scolding me for so greatly "modifying" my system, by installing "superfluous junk", despite much of the "junk" being helpful-sounding programs, with positive reviews by others.
And to simply tell me to check out & delete any extensions &/or third party programs I "don't recognize" or "know what they do", means I could very well screw up things even more, by deleting something I may not recognize or know what it does, but is an essential program, as the article on 3rd party add -ons warns about.

So my "lashing out" is simply the frustration of having various programs arbitrarily deemed "superfluous junk", without any explanation beyond his judgment. And since I don't know him, why should I simply do whatever he says, without question. I don't come here to simply be told what to do, as most of the workarounds offered in this forum don't actually solve many of the problems users have , but only cause more spent time & energy.

Again, if in fact, there are certain popular programs which are known to badly screw up most systems, then why not create a post with a list of these dangerous add-ons, so many of the issues users not as knowledgeable have, might be avoided before they occur. The approach of suggesting new or less expert users do serious, often confusing & potentially even more damaging, troubleshooting, such as disabling all extensions, deleting various plug- ins & add-ons, simply because we don't recognize or know what they do, seems like waiting until the horse is out of the barn, whereas a list of software potentially hazardous to a Mac's health could prevent a lot of grief, no?

Well, I did a RESET of Safari, yet even with only a fraction of the number of pages/windows open, it is still rebooting on its own, although not every half hour, but still far too often. Plus, I'm now having spinning wheels as I type, without much RAM being used, so the reset didn't do the job.
I also ran the Hardware Test, which showed no problems. But now, for some reason, after re-booting, all but only a small number of the previously open email messages I had, disappeared! So I am totally confused as to what to even try, I've already done a re-install of my OS, which did nothing. I suppose I'd really like to re-install Safari 5.0.7 or so, at least I didn't have all the issues with the Web Content re-booting as I'm in the middle of stuff, and the Autofill worked much better. How to do this is my question? Do I just install one I have on a back-up disk, or do I need to install the Snow Leopard Combo download?
