How do I remove iPhoto from my laptop without deleting photos?

Hi: I am giving my old MBA to a friend, and I need to wipe all of my information. I want to remove my iPhoto library, but the last time I did this, it started to delete all of my photos from all of my iPhoto libraries on other computers.

What do I do?

Thanks!

You can't just remove your Library and give it away. You must restore it to thefactory settings.

First copy your iPhoto Library package from your Pictures folder to an external HD or another Mac. Check the library on the other Mac with iPhoto to make sure it copied OK and is working.

Next go to the System/iCloud preference pane and log out of your iCloud account and deauthorize the MBA in iTunes. In Mail and iPhoto delete all email accounts. Finally prepare the Mac for transfer according to one of these sites:

factory settings.

Hi Old Toad:

Thanks for your answer! I don't want to restore to factory settings because I want to keep an account on this MBA, for occasional use. (The friend is a very, very, very close friend who lives with me. 😉)

The photos are already on my iMac, where I really use my iPhoto library. It is working.

I want to keep my iMail account open on the MBA, but get rid of my iPhoto library. The last time I tried to do this, I somehow ended up deleting photos.

Thanks!

Then clean out Home folder of anything you don't need, copy the iPhoto LIbrary to the other Mac or EHD and then delete it, create a new user account for your friend. However, if the account is an administrative account they may be able to access the files in your account. It's best to make that new adcount a non admin account. But your call.
