How do I get FaceTime back after upgrade loss?

I've never used iMessage, but when I checked it, it is not activated either.

Has all the troubleshooting in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4268 been attempted?

iPhone automatically registers your phone number for use with FaceTime and iMessage during activation.

To use FaceTime with your Apple ID, navigate to Settings > FaceTime and tap "Use your Apple ID for FaceTime." 😕 I do not get the option on this. My screen just says "waiting for activation"

To use iMessage with your Apple ID, navigate to Settings > Messages > Receive At and tap "Use your Apple ID for iMessage." 😕 I do not get the option on this. My screen just says "waiting for activation"

If you see "Waiting for Activation" when trying to activate your phone number with iMessage or FaceTime on iPhone

To resolve this issue:

1. Ensure that you have an active Internet connection. You can complete activation using Wi-Fi or a cellular data connection. If you need help connecting to Wi-Fi, follow these steps.
2. Update to the latest version of iOS.
3. Ensure that FaceTime hasn't been restricted: tap Settings > General > Restrictions > FaceTime.
4. Ensure that your iPhone is set to the correct time zone: tap Settings > General > Date & Time.
   Note: If Set Automatically is on but the incorrect time zone appears, turn Set Automatically off and choose the correct time zone, date, and time.
5. Verify that you can send SMS messages. You need a valid SMS messaging plan to activate FaceTime and iMessage.
6. Contact your carrier to verify that there are no restrictions or blocks on text messages. Blocks on text messaging will prevent iMessage and FaceTime registration.

😕 I am connected to the network and all my other Apple apps work and log in like the app store and iTunes.

Most attempts will take less than an hour, but some attempts may take up to 24 hours. If your issue isn't resolved after 24 hours, follow these steps. If you've recently performed a remote wipe on your iPhone, wait 24 hours from the time you performed the remote wipe, and then turn iMessage off then back on

To resolve this issue, follow these steps. After each step, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime.

5. Ensure that FaceTime hasn't been restricted: tap Settings > General > Restrictions > FaceTime. 😕 Have changed this setting a couple of times to be sure.
6. Ensure that your iPhone is set to the correct time zone: tap Settings > General > Date & Time. 😕 I have done this also.
   Note: If Set Automatically is on but the incorrect time zone appears, turn Set Automatically off and choose the correct time zone, date, and time.
7. Enable iMessage and FaceTime while connected to another Wi-Fi network in a different location. 😕 Have tryed multiple locations.

You can see that you've activated FaceTime and iMessage with your Apple ID by tapping: 😕 Never see this screen.

If you've waited 24 hours and still can't activate FaceTime or iMessage (iPhone only) or you see "Could not sign in, please check your network connection and try again"

OK I just noticed this one: Verify that you can send SMS messages. You need a valid SMS messaging plan to activate FaceTime and iMessage.

I do not know what a SMS message plan is. That that my normal msn email account that I use or could this be the problem?

An SMS is a text, not email and yes, that's most likely your problem. Do you not text from your iPhone?

I send texts more that I talk. But then I just got this great news from another thread!

Others have had success with it. Sorry it did not help you.

I know it doesn't help you much now but Apple is aware of the issue and is expected to release 7.0.3 next week to address iMessage issues.
