Google calendar sync does not work following ios7 upgrade

I have an iphone 5th generation and I have been using Google calendar sync successfully for a year. Since my ios7 upgrade, my google calendar will not sync with my iphone native calendar. I have tried removing my google account and re-entering to no avail. I have completely restored my iphone from scratch as well. Nothing. I do not have any calendars to choose from when I open the iphone calendar. Is anyone else experiencing this? Help!?

My iPad did not synchronize imported calendars, which apparently is a known issue. I unchecked these calendars from the syncselect list, switched off my iPad, switched on my iPad again, checked the calendars again in the syncselect list, and everything was in sync! I am not sure if they keep syncing by themselves now ...

All of my gmail calendars sync except my "main" aka original calendar sync from my desktop to my iPhone and my iPad and vice versa. Does anyone know why this is and more importantly how to fix it?

When I check which calendars should be displayed (at the bottom of the screen in the middle, entitled "calendars") and shared on my iPad, the calendar in question which is not synching does not have "Shared by" under it, whereas all of the other calendars have "shared by" under it.

How do I get my default calendar on my gmail account to synch between my desktop, mini iPad, and iPhone?

THANKS ;)

Another possibility- probably only relevant to UK users. In the transfer from googlemail to gmail, my calendar somehow still had the googlemail domain. While on ipad settings accounts/ gmail, it had the right label (xxx@gmail.com), under calendars, default calendars it showed xxx@googlemail.com. Solution is to go into google calendar, on the gearbox go to calendars, select the relevant calendar from the list and make sure the name and owner are correct.

Back to settings on the iPad, delete and reenter your gmail account per the instructions noted in posts above. Synced immediately once fixed.

This is a known problem and I had it happen to me prior and just now on 7.1.1.

Fix is simply to:

  1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calenders
  2. Pick account for Google Calenders
  3. Turn off Calenders (don't delete it though)
  4. Switch off phone
  5. Turn on phone
  6. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calenders
  7. Pick account for Google Calenders
  8. Turn on Calenders

iPhone Calenders will now sync as normal.

Always challenge anyone who tells you to do brute-force restore-from-back-up "solutions" as they tend to only remove the symptom and not the cause.

I have an iPhone 5s/iOS 8.1, but I ran into your exact same problem last week. For some odd reason, when I tried to fix it through the "Settings" or "Sync with mobile device" on my Google Calendar webpage, I hit a dead end or I was taken to a "Page not available." I also deleted and re-added my Google account on my phone, but the problem still wasn't solved. What I did was this:

1. I organized my schedule to my liking and titled it.

2. I went to "google.com" and typed in the search bar, "google calendar iphone"

3. I clicked on the second link on the search results page. It should say, "Select Calendar for iPhone - Google."

4. This will take you to a "Sync Settings" page, and will list "My Calendars" and "Shared Calendars."

5. For me, the schedule that I created wasn't check-boxed, so I simply checked it off.

6. I went back to my iCal on my iPhone and it automatically updated.

If this doesn't help you, you can always use a separate iPhone app. Before I solved my problem as above, I used the free app "CalenMob."

Cheers,

- Alex

4. If you're already logged into your Google Account, this will automatically take you to a "Sync Settings" page, and will list "My Calendars" and "Shared Calendars." If you're NOT already logged in, it will first prompt you to sign in and then take you to the "Sync Settings" page.

5. Take a look at the 1st screenshot below, and you'll see this webpage. The schedule that I titled "ShiftGen" was listed under "Shared Calendars." As you can see, the box next to it wasn't checked-off, so I simply clicked it off.

6. I went back to my iCal on my iPhone and it automatically updated.

I had this problem iOS 8.1, but solved it by going to: https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps. Google itself was blocking the normal iPhone access to Google calendar. Google recommends using their app. However, you can enable less secure apps on the linked page. In my case, I received an email notifying me that insecure access had been tried from my home. The email provided the link. I actually use Google only for calendar, not email, so it took me a while to notice the email. I hope that's helpful.

This was the basis of what worked for me too - except I had Two Step Verification to overcome too. Here Google Calendar kicks in and tells you you need to generate a device specific password for the iPad instead of your normal Google password. Use that in the normal place for settings in "accounts".

I hadalso generated an Apple push certificate, no idea if I really needed to, but I have one now.

I have the 5c and everything was working fine. I then switched to a new gmail account, and also changed my apple ID to the new account. I deleted the old gmail account and added the new, but it didn't show up in the calendars in the calendar app. Not on my phone or my iPad. I've tried resetting the network, clearing content, resetting the whole phone, deleting it the account-turning off the phone - then adding the account, going through the google instructions and saving it and everything else listed in all of these comments. Wondering if you have any ideas? (It's now been 7 hours total on this problem...)

I had these problems as well. My gmail and gmail contacts were syncing to my ipad but not the calendar. I tried most of the steps above with no success.

I got on the phone with Apple support and the girl was helpful but really didn't have a solution. We actually found one together:

I originally configured my iPad using a backup from an iPhone so she had me delete and recreate the gmail account. I had already tried this the day before when troubleshooting but it did not work the first time. But we got it working properly the second time because of one small change...

I was using two-step verification (https://myaccount.google.com/) so each time I add my gmail account to ANY apple device I have to go to into my google account and create an "App Password". When I first tried recreating my google account on the iPad I went to https://myaccount.google.com/ and created an "App Password" for App: Calendar, Device: iPad. This created the password named "Calendar on my iPad". When I input this into the gmail account on my iPad it made my gmail and contacts sync but still NOT the calendar. Same situation as before.

So when I did this a second time when I was on the phone with Apple tech support we noticed that the "App Password" in google that I setup for my iPhone6+ was named "Mail for my iPhone". My calendar was syncing fine on my iPhone6+ so we decided to create a new password for App: Mail, Device: iPad. We did this and got a new password named "Mail on my iPad". Once I input this into the newly created gmail account on my iPad my Calendar, Mail and Contacts all synced perfectly!!!

Not sure why the "Calendar on my iPad" password didn't work for me. And I'm still not sure if google or apple is to blame but at least it is working now. I'm not an IT security expert but it seems that almost every other device and app can use two-step verification EXCEPT for apple devices....hmmm....
