Ios7 problems, safari crashes

This new iOS 7 has ruined the whole ipad experience for me. I use this as a browser, email tool and music library. The browser randomly crashes on a very frequent bases, some times a page opens and other times the same page crashes safari and I have to relaunch. The browser seems sluggish I feel like I just took a giant step backwards. Email is clunky and slow to respond, requires multiple touches to change folders. Music sound terrible, has hangs in sound and generally sounds glitchy. Not at all enjoyable.

I wish I had just kept dismissing the pop up asking me to update.

If you asked me a week ago about the ipad I would have told you it was great. If it was lost or stolen I would run out that day and buy a replacement. Ask me now and I would say good riddance.

Apple really blew it on this one, they took an excellent product and turned it into a frustrating pile of hardware. If ios7 was not intended for the ipad 2 why are their servers pushing it out to devices that they should not.

I have searched and found that I am not alone in these problems but have not seen any solutions.

i suggested a possible solution for this problem, but i'm afraid it didn't get through to you. so let me elaborate on the "possible solution" a bit more:

seems to me that the source of the hassle is "bookmark synchronization through iCloud".

there must be a bug in that functionality, which results in massive duplicates in Safari's bookmark entries;

especially when you are using Safari browser on Mac computer(s) and/or on Windows PC(s), where the iCloud bookmark synchronization is turned on in the iCloud control panel - and you are using iDevice(s) where the iCloud bookmark synchronization is turned on.

that seems, to me, to be the recipe for this annoying bug.

if your situation fits the profile above, try the following:

1. on your iDevice(s), check if Settings > iCloud > Safari is turned on. if yes, turn it off. (for now; will get back to this later.) then there comes a popup which asks you whether you want to wipe out the synchronized iCloud Safari data or not; so wipe'em out please (this is CRUCIAL! gotta wipe'em out!). do it on all of your iDevices. and check to see if the Safari on that device (or on those devices) work(s) now. (it should not crash now; so read on.)

2. if you have any Mac(s) and/or PC(s) which has(have) Safari installed, run Safari on those systems. then check the "Bookmarks" menu. there must be insane amount of duplicate entries.

3. if yes for "insane amount of duplicate bookmarks", click "Bookmarks > Edit Bookmarks" menu (on one of the Mac(s) and/or PC(s), of course) - and remove the duplicates which must be the culprit for this problem.

4. now get back to your iDevice(s) and access Settings > iCloud > Safari: turn the switch back on. the bookmarks will be updated, and those will get synchronized with the ones of the Safari on your Mac(s)/PC(s).

for me, these steps worked. hope it helps you too.

There is no reason you should have gotten 7 replacements. This isn't a hardware issue, no amount of replacement iPads will ever fix this. I can't even believe Apple would exchange it for you 7 times. That is wacky.

Europaa, like I said, after I did that, Safari seems to have stopped crashing. However, none of the things you mentioned applied to me, I have never used Safari on anything other than my iPad and iPod Touch, I have no Mac, no Safari on Windows, nothing like that, no duplicate bookmarks. Safari crashing is but one fish in a sea of bugs, heh. Yes, Safari seems to be working as it should for the moment, but without Safari crashing, the fact that iOS crashes once or twice a day feels even more apparent now. That is the memory leak issue, and still needs to be addressed. Thank you for this fix though, and I will post updates as the other poster has been doing.

Well after persevering through the continual crashing of 3 iPad Air replacements .. (at Apples's request) .. Plus iPads 2 & 3 .. We at miApples have now sent all back and will now no longer be reviewing Apple products and associated products including apps from iTunes.

We have hounded Apple for a public apology, explanation & fix now since the iPad Air on iOS 7 were first released (including iOS 7 for other iPad models) .. last year.

But in the typical arrogance of Apple .. They have declined all apologies & explanations.

We shall continue bringing any Apple news as it breaks though.

So in 2014 we shall be concentrating on mostly Samsung products & their side products including Apps on Google Play.

If there is a sound re-build of iOS 7 for iPads sometime in the future .. We shall return to covering Apple once again.

* WORD ON THE STREET *

Apple is preparing to release an updated version of iOS 7 possibly in March 2014.

We wait in anticipation for this and also we wait an official apology to Apple customers for such inconvenience.

HAPPY NEW YEAR folks!

Now several more days later, and still no Safari crashes after the Europaa fix. Still suffering from iOS crashes, which definitely needs to be fixed, but no Safari crashes. What I did:

Go into settings>iCloud, and turn the button for Safari off. When prompted, delete all info.

Then, I powered off and powered back on

Then, I went back to that setting and turned it back on.

Since then, no Safari crashes at all.

Yep, that did it. Followed your link, zoomed, crashed. I take back everything I said, and resume my infuriation.

I have been meaning to say though, I am really disappointed with all of the people that have abandoned the iPad in this thread, and bought Droid and Windows tablets. Where is your brand loyalty? Stuff like this happens with software all the time, including Apple products and iOS in the past. The public, in the technological age, is little more than a glorified beta tester. Other devices are going to have bug, glitches, and crashes just the same. Jeez.

Err... WHAT??? Brand loyalty... WHY???

Where is Apple's loyalty to their customers? How are they providing a good and functional product for the premium people pay for the iOS devices?

I haven't abandoned Apple (yet!) but the way the quality has gone down and the lack of info and updates on this issue, is hugely dissapointing! I used to recommend Apple's products to friends and family, I can't do that any more.

You realize, right, that tech companies do not generally publicly admit serious bugs? I'm not sure what you expect. Bugs happen all the time, in operating systems, and in software, and they get fixed/patched. If you see an update in the app store, it tells you what they fixed, but they (most developers/companies) don't tell you what is wrong beforehand, or what they are trying to fix. You are expecting Apple to tell the public to stop buying iPads for the moment, which is insane.

I expect them to treat their customers with respect, not giving bull-**** suggestions and stall, and fix the problem ASAP. iOS 7 was clearly released unfinished and, for many, borderline useless.

I'm a professional developer myself and know bugs happens, but if my company treated our customers the same way, we would be out of business. The only reason Apple are doing this - yes they know there is a problem - is they have become so are so big and arrogant and they think the market will blindly swallow buggy software. It's just a shame hard-core Apple fanboys have their heads so far in the arse that they can't admit it to themselves.

I'm glad this worked for you but after I followed this exact procedure, Safari crashed within ten minutes (I was on twitter.com at the time). Considering that many other apps (Chrome browser, Facebook, Twitter) are also crashing right and left, I must conclude that the issue remains and is some result of combination of iPad Air and iOS 7.0.4.

I continue to believe that the new 64-bit processor must be a factor. Many have reported crashing while using the older hardware, but Safari has always had intermittent crashing issues. However, after replacing my iPad 2 with the Air recently, I can report that all things being equal, the new hardware is vastly less stable while running the same OS, apps, and user data.

Well said. Yup if we all treated our customers like sheep being lead to the slaughter we wouldn't get away with it.

Look at blackberry every little thing about BB is criticized yet their browser is the best mobile browser I have used on a device. Stable with no crashes and very fast 2gb ram and no page reloads.

As a consultant myself I test all platforms and phones. IOS 7 by far has been the buggiest release to date
