Touch ID being Erratic

Wife and I got iPhone 5s units at the same time. She has had hit and miss success with touch ID. I am golden with mine, and also hers when I put a finger into her phone data. She is frustrated, and will delete fingerprints and resestablish on her phone. Her finger scan will work for a few times, and then it gets to be like it doesn't recognize her finger (left thumb or right thumb). Is anybody else having some issues like this?

And Apple replaced the phone YET AGAIN, and >>>>>>>>>>>MIRACLE!!!<<<<<<<<<<<<<< it works FLAWLESSLY. They must have had a LOT of faulty sensors early on, because this is my 3rd handset. It works 99% of the time, except if my hands are wet, or I really put my thumb in the wrong place. It's been working steadily now for FOUR days, which NONE of the others did. If you are still having this issue, and are still under warranty (if you didn't buy Apple's extended warranty, shame on you!), ask them for another phone - INSIST on one. I bought my 1st faulty 5s in December 2013, got a faulty replacement in Feb 2014, but this one, manufactured six weeks ago, works flawlessly. Now I just got to train myself to use it all the time. It's FABULOUS.

Just wanted to say that I was having these issues on my iPhone 6, where I would only get Touch ID to work about half the time, at best. I would reset the fingerprints and it would slowly lose accuracy as many have said. For me, the Genius Bar replaced the screen on the phone (free of charge, of course), and I'm happy to report that I have had zero issues since. So far it's been about 10 days since then so I think it's fixed for me! Based on this, hardware seems to certainly be the culprit rather than software. The button also feels different... it's softer when you push and less 'clicky'... so if anyone's is clicky and having these issues, get it serviced! 🙂

It's been a while since I bothered posting about this.....

After 2 5s I gave up on researching this problem with literally trying all "solutions"

Found on the net., now with my 6 I was sooo happy it not only worked flawless for about a month but faster and

Brilliant but sadly after ages of pleasure using it it took back my joy with a vengeance.. It made me used to the awesomeness and

One day started to f*** up again.. Now it's back to my good old 4 out of 10 times :(((( I have to "clean" the button 80% of the time while

Previous I used it with wet/sticky/dirty,... Whatever fingers without ever cleaning it.. Sigh.. Guess this technology is not ready yet it might take years to

Work properly like Siri and maps :(((

I began experiencing this issue a couple weeks after buying my iPhone 5s and was totally puzzled about it. I almost read the whole discussion, and tried several of the suggested methods. In the end, what worked for me was changing the way I use Touch ID.

I'm not sure why the way I used it in the begining tends to work for a couple hours and then it stops to, but now it's working flawlessly for me. For what I read on the discussion, almost all of us have experienced the same problem, and my solution was quite simple: instead of using the top of my finger, I started using the center (where the fingerprint actually is). I sounds obvious, but the thing is that you have to put your finger in a different position than in previous iOs devices.

Maybe this discussion has become so long and complex because there are several different causes involved: in the begining it might have been software (for what I read, there was a glitch, but was corrected long ago), for some may be hardware, but for some others (like me) it may be just learning how to use it correctly.

I hope my experience help others overcome this annoying issue.

(sorry about any mistake I might have commited, but was you can obviously tell, I'm not a native english speaker)

Deleting and rescanning prints will not solve the problem, not forever at least. In my case it was like that... I've had this with my 6+ and the only thing that permanently solved was restoring to factory settings first, then recovering from the latest backup. Backup on iTunes, not iCloud. So make sure to do a fresh backup stored on the computer, because it won't let you choose the iCloud one when you recover. Never had a Touch ID problem ever again, use several scans and they all always work. I mean unless it's me being inaccurate, having dirty fingers and such!
