iPhone 5 Power Button flaky since upgrade to iOS 7

Long time apple advocate, all apple products in our house of 5 people...

I too am having this problem with my iphone 5 and am very upset about it... It too started soon after the IOS 7 upgrade so I was sure it was a software problem. I am fed up enough, I recently decided to search for this problem and found this thread... I am shocked Apple is not doing the right thing here..

I am going to setup an appt at the genius bar and see what happens..

I really like the Note line of products and this might be the challenges that breaks the camel's back.. Hate to leave Apple but I can't believe they aren't doing the right thing by people..

Same issue here since the update to iOS7. Minor inconvenience but it would be good if Apple fixed the problem.

That happens to me too after updating to ios 7.0.4 but all the previous ios 7 versions worked fine I just hope they fix it soon

I just upgraded to iOS 7.1 and can report that my iPhone 5 reliably sleeps now in one push where it used to take 3-9 attempts. I was all but certain it was a hardware failure! Wow! I have a Genius Bar appointment in a few hours I'll have to cancel!🙂

I upgraded as well, but there is no improvement. However, a previous post suggested applying pressure to the left side of the button and that has always worked for me. If I press the center or right side of the button, it doesn't work. So I stick to depressing the left side, not perfect, but solves the problem.

I think I might be part of the problem with my button.

Because of the longer iPhone 5 , i realize that I tend to press on the right side of the button.

After thousand of repetitive press I guess the right side is not working anymore.

That would explain why the left side was the only one working.

Now that I have a new phone (I had AppleCare)

I hold my phone differently, in a way that I can press in the middle of the button

We'll see in a few month

But I must say that now a gentle press is enough to shut down the screen

Was it software related like I say the first time

Not sure but I remember well that the change occur with iOS 7

Was it a perfect timing with my button breaking on the right side

Let me clear the sky here.. I had the same issue, started a few months before iOS7 so I was sure that the problem is not due to iOS7. It got worse gradually and finally stopped working completely. Last week I bought the flex cable and did the surgery and replaced the cable (with button mounted) and now everything works fine. The cable was $24 but the fix was fairly complicated and risky. One step wrong and I could have made the phone useless. Anyhow, to let you all know, Software (iOS7) has nothing to do with this problem.

The button is a circle push button underneath your large button, it breaks and becomes unresponsive. Cheap material if you ask me. I kept my old cable as the evidence.

Guys i think i fixed it:

1-hold down your right side (not working) of the power button until it works

2-while still holding the right side, hold the left (working) with a little pressure too

I tried this for my iphone 5 just out of desperation and it fixed it i dont know if it might do it for you tell me what happens with you!

Wow! So far thiat is working for me. It took several tries to get it to work, but now it's fine.

Just a soft click works now, whereas before I was hurting my finger pressing repeatedly, hard.

Maybe it's software related? Seems like magic! 😁

Well, actually that didn't really work for me. It just seemed to be better, but I ended up having to turn in my phone and get a replacement at the Genius Bar. The circuits were messed up on the phone or something. I was out of warantee so paid about $250 for the replaceament.

I am suprised, I did not expect that
