How to reinstall java 6?

Hi,

I've done something I probably shouldn't have i.e. I tried to install Java 7 (oracle JDK 7) on 10.6.8.

It didn't work.

So I've tried to uninstall it following these instructions:

And I've tried to reactivate java 6 by entering the commands on this page:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=fr_FR&locale=fr_FR

Then I've found somewhere that

JavaAppletPlugin.plugin. had to be removed so I did.

Anyway, complete disaster. Java doesn't work. Java pref won't launch.

I'm totally stuck. Is there anyway to "reset" java 6 and reinstall it?

When I downloaded JavaForMacOSX10.6, a message came up saying that a more recent version was already installed...

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

That's useless since it requires Lion or Mtn Lion. For the OP, try http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573.

To uninstall Java please see this page:

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml

Having done this see whether Software Update will offer to install the correct version (1.6.0.5_51) or try from here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573

Then, start over. Boot into recovery mode (+R on startup) and reinstall the OS. Then, reinstall the JE 6 version.

He's on Snow Leopard, so it's a case of reinstalling from the original install disks.

Ah! My mistake. I got distracted by his installing a Lion/Mtn Lion only app (Sys Rqmts: any Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) or later) onto the machine. AFAIK, he shouldn't have been able to do that, but I'm probably mistaken, since I've never tried such an action.
