Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

"This accessory may not be supported."

Ever since updating my iPhone 5 with the new iOS 7, this display message pops up while my phone is plugged in to the computer, using the original cable that came with it in the box. Researching this issue only informed me that the new iOS is no longer compatible with generic iPhone chargers. However, mine is the one made by Apple and so there should be absolutely no issues with it. While it is plugged in my phone charges on and off, never consistently charging. It's really irritating and is making charging a very slowgoing process. Does anyone else have any insight on this issue?

While we're at it, I noticed the new iOS 7 kills the battery life much faster than the previous iOS; I don't use my phone too much throughout the day, and it has been dying consistently twice a day. If I don't use it nearly at all, it seems to last only six or so hours.

Thanks in advance for any feedback! Hope not everyone is having these issues!

Alexis

Yeh Moon is right, my phone charges fine plugged into the wall, but the same cable does not charge when plugged into the PC. So the problem is not the cable, it is the PC connection that is a problem under iOS7.

Your USB port on your computer may not be providing enough power. My iPhone will charge from my computer, my iPad will not because there is not enough power. Not all USB ports provide the same amount of power.

I have an iphone 4, apple cables, outlet charge and I get the "This accessory may not be supported". When plugged into my computer, I can access all the files via the USB, but it still doesn't charge, which means the port is transferring information, just not juice to the battery. This has happened since I changed the system. My girlfriend has not changed to the new system, and she uses the same cables and hers charges. I changed out the battery thinking it is an old battery, same thing. My next trick will be to trade out the port on the end. I would like to go back to the old opperating system, but can't. No, we are not crazy, and we haven't changed our charging ways, just give us a fix.

This is annoying to the point that I'm thinking about getting another phone. I can't keep my phone charged because it buzzes and gives me that error message every time I plug it in. I have an original apple charger that came with the phone. I have tried the wall and the computer. Nada. Forget about my generic charger in the car. Can't apple just update the OS to remove this feature.

I changed my battery nothing happened. I changed my charging port and that fixed the problem. I think was coincidence with the IOS upgrade. But forget going to the Apple store. I just wanted a battery and they wouldn't sell it to me without installing it for $80, because if I went to another place it would void the warranty. Funny, the phone is 4 years old and no longer has a warranty. The used car sales men (Genius bar guys) then told me I should just upgrade phones, and then didn't know a place that would work on iphones. I went two doors down to a guy that worked on iphones and got the battery installed in 5 mins for less than half the price. But the error still came up. So I went back and for $40 he replaced the charge port and it works great. It's not the charger (whether it is Apple or not), that is Bogus to keep the Apple monopoly. It's not the computer, although the contacts may be worn to the point where the computer doesn't supply the juice. Its a simple charge port change. And forget the Genius bar, they are just used car sales man to get get you to stay on the Apple drug. Do your research, and go to some of the guys that work on iphones. And, oh yeah, that insurance your paying. A scam! My girlfriend has been paying $20 for 3 years and her front glass shattered, the insurance wanted $199 to replace it (you do the math). We thought that was what insurance was for. Just like a car deductible, they say (nevermind a car costs 15 to 20x more). The same guy will replace the screen for $65. Do your homework, find ways around Apple Help, and you will have more time, money and less headaches. The product is good, but Apple's drive to make money is questionable.

I have heard some arguments, silly btw, that Apple own the patent of the lightining connector...

I have my apple cable...it does not like my Belkin USB power supply (multiplug outlet with USB ports)....so the Iphone does not accept that either

NOW APPLE HAS THE USB PATENT AS WELL????????????

I will switch to Android!

SAME SITUATION for me, all of sudden. Using MBP13Retina all day long with Apple charger cable, using 3rd party car-USB charger, no problem, even older 3rd party plug-in, all these others with 30-pin to lightning adaptors, NO PROBLEM for 2 days away. I get home, put 5S into my APPLE 5S STAND, plugged into APPLE wall plug and USB ..... has worked flawlessly for the weeks since I got my phone -- tonight, ACCESSORY NOT SUPPORTED. The ONLY change has been that I upgraded to iOS 7.0.3 over the weekend. It didn't balk with the OTHER charging cables noted above ..... just my bedside unit.

PLEASE ..... is the iOS update a vaporware come to life with dragon-flames coming out? Cupertino -- FIX THIS NOW BEFORE WE ALL LOSE POWER AND BACKUPS AND WHATEVER!

well interestingly, I have an aftermarket cable and was feeling duped

when I realised my cable wasnt working on the wall outlet charger.

I swapped my wall charger usb with the original apple cable that I had

attached to my macbook and vuala!! or vwala (is that a word??).

The macbook now recognises the aftermarket cable, and i have placed

the original apple cable on the wall charger that now works.

a simple workaround for me, Hope it helps someone.

I recently bought a Mophie Jucie Pack Air for the iPhone 5/5s and kept getting the same warning issue but followed these steps below to stop the warning....😉

////////////////////////////////////////////////////

1. Turn on USB power

2. Plug in lightning cable to iPhone

3. Dismiss any warnings

4. Unlock your iPhone.

5. Dismiss any remaining warnings.

6. Now with the screen turned on.

7. Unplug the knock off lightning cable.

8. Plug it back in.

9. Dismiss warning again

10. It should now charge.

Would it not have been better to just buy an Apple cable for $19.00. You pay a large sum for a phone, another $50 or $60 for a Mophie pack and the quibble about $20 for a cable. Your priorities seemed to be misaligned. An Apple cable works just fine with a Mophie pack.

Ok, first and foremost I purchased the extra 19.00 apple lightning cable in addition to getting one with my new iPhone 5s. Although, I need an extended battery pack as I am away from a charger due to my job for up to 16 hours a day, so I needed the extra battery the Mophie juice pack air provides this, plus protection.

Please watch the way you present yourself into a conversation because it seems you are out to start an argument and this is not why I am here. I must say though anyone who's purchased a Mophie juice case knows very well it uses the same charger as android phones , so you are dead wrong and have no idea what your speaking about.

End of discussion...follow the steps if you are getting this message or listen to raymond73 and get no where.

The choice is yours..

Really? I have a Mophie battery pack. I have an Apple cable. It works just fine with the iPhone 5 running IOS 7.0.3. I can also charge my phone with my car charger, my Belkin adapter. It all just works. Common demoninator is I have an Apple cable.

I post from experience. What else would you suggest?

Thanks for the scolding. Really justifies your position. I am not out to start an argument. I know what I am talking about.

The USB specification provides 5 volts, a ground, a signal positive and a signal negative. All the iPhone cord uses is the +5 and ground. The cable does not care where that voltage comes from as the cable has no way to know if the power is from a USB port on a computer, a wall adapter or a battery pack.

If you are getting the message your cable is NOT an Apple certified cable or the cable is defective. Get a new cable, Apple certified, from Apple. After market that claim Apple compatibility may not be true.

The choice is yours..

Hardly. My cables work, my chargers work. I have nothing to chose.
