How do I prevent having the Mail app on an iPad 3 w/IOS 7 tell me the message has no content? This started after the upgrade to Ios 7.


My workaround is to move the message to a different folder; however, I have never had to do that before IOS 7.

    I have seen this now on an iPad 2 and iPad 3 updated to IOS 7.0.2 .  In each case the sender was an AOL user. Also quite accidentally stumbled on the same workaround, which succeeded in every instance. It's a bug.

    It's not just AOL. I've seen it a lot with messages from this community.

    Sometimes just have to go past that mail and it'll eventually load.

    I had seen this although very rarely. I quit Mail and restart it and the problem usually goes away.


    To quit Mail Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Find the Mail app icon. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app.

    I have seen it on a variety of senders (same thing on my wife's iPad). Restarting the app and just waiting has not worked for me.

    Ithink it's something to do with the way the message has been encoded. Try comparing good and bad messages on a PC and see if there is a pattern.


    My iphone does not show the content of messages that have this in the header :-


    MIME-Version: 1.0

    Content-Type: multipart/related;




    But it does show the following:-


    MIME-Version: 1.0

    Content-Type: text/plain;


    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit

    My wife is getting exactly the same.  Happening constantly from multiple senders and from those whose emails were resolving fine in iOS 6.  She is tired of it - and given what Apple allegedly stands for (quality in a comparable price bracket), why should we have to use frustrating workarounds?

    I have a working workaround which involved collating all my emails from various accounts into a single gmail account and then only configuring my iphone to get emails from the gmail account. It seems that any emails in my gmail account always look fine, whereas emails in my other non-gmail account had this content problem.

    The workarounds don't work forme at all. I suspect that only the message header has been read, but not the body. This has been a problem for a while (also in iOS 6), and it is for me not related to the message type. It seems that the program thinks that it has finished reading the message, but it hasn't, and there is no option to refresh an individual message unfortunately.

    Same problem since the upgrade, never had this issue before. I've just been opening my mail from the individual programs in safari, completely defeats the purpose of the mail app. Very disappointed in iOS7

    One of the things I have noticed is if I let all the messages finish updating before opening one to read is I do not seem to get the no content message. I also turned off the thread feature but am not sure if that made a difference.

    Yes, I agree with Mike V, if you wait for the spinning wheel to stop and load the message completely, it does not happen. Also, if you wait a few minutes, the message miraculously appears! I don't know why, I've looked for a resolution in other forums and nothing. I get it, you interrupt the download it stops for a few minutes, what I don't understand is why! Frustrating

    Close the mail client (double click on your home button and swipe upwards). Open the mail client again....and voila :-)

    Sorry – didn't work for me. Looks like the mail client thinks it has read the message but actually hasn't. I particularly noticed the behaviour when opening a message too quickly from a notification alert

    I figured it out. do not open the email this locks up the ipad.  Left Swipe then tap delete.

    This has fixed the problem on this ipad. 


    Ipad 2 running 7.0.4
