How do you put music on device AND use iTunes Match?

I did this before, and now with new iphone and ios 7 for some reason I am having issues.

Simply, I am looking to keep music on my iphone (ipad etc) but also use iTunes Match to see those songs that were not downloaded to the device.

In the past I did this:

1) Synced with computer (windows) with itunes match off...transferred my itune slibrary to device.

2) Turned itunes mact ON on the device. Then it would show all the itms I put on there in the library, and the stuff not on the device but in the cloud with the download icon

THis was great.

Now when I do step 2, itunes match replaces everything in the library which is finbe... but now EVERY song shows with a download icon..... and the local versions aren't available

If anyone has any ideas please le tme know.. It may have to do with the sequence I do this or something.... But this used to work so I can have the many songs locally stored I use most and all the itunes match stuff available.

Thank you anyone who can help!

I figured it out so I will answer my own question.

When you change the setting on the ios device to itunes match, you need to

1 - Make sure Music App is shut down

2 - Do NOT go in to music app for a few mins (depeding on library size I guess)

If you go in to the music app and its displaying Loading from itunes match then you lose access to the local content (i think this is a bug)

If you wait and then go in, your previously loaded songs are ther eand anything in the cloud has a cloud download indicator...

Mike, I am having almost identical problems. Could you please clarify, before I try anything. When you say "Make sure Music App is shut down," are you referring to iTunes on your main computer?

With iTunes match off, I have just done a hard sync of all my iTunes songs onto the iPhone 5s via USB cable (details in the thread below), and they appear to be residing just fine on the phone with no greyed out songs to be downloaded from iCloud.

These songs play just fine via BlueTooth on my car system, so I would like to enable iCloud and iTunes Match again,

***** IF *****

I am not going to lose the local song files on the iPhone 5s.

Thanks.

I wanted to get the non-ad iTunes Radio, so I set up a small version of my library and set up iTunes Match. But after turning it on on my iPhone 5 I could not access the music that I synced from my computer. I thought I must have missed something, so I called Tech Support and was told by the techie guy that "No - iOS devices cannot access BOTH synced music and iTunes Match, it is either one or the other".

Now if some can explain how this can be accomplished - because none of the linked discussions show how to have BOTH synced music from my computer library AND use iTunes Match on an iPhone.
