Anyone having vimeo playback issues with Safari 5.1.10 running OS 10.6.8?

Since upgrading to Safari 5.1.10 for snow leopard I've notice play back issues with some of my video's posted on vimeo. Video pops up or down in brighteness and contrast and in one case goes all pixelated for one shot and back to normal after that.

@ aprox: 02:07-02:11 (brightness/contrast pop) & 03:38-03:41 (sever pixelation)

@ aprox 00:28-00:50 (brightness/contrast pops)

The video files playback normal in FireFox, Safari 6.0.5 on 13" Macbook pro. Also plays normal on iPhone 5 w/ ios 6. The files also playback normal on the vimeo website when viewed as flash player but when switched to HTML5 Player the issue is back.

Please advise.

thx

I looked at the first one - I see the same behaviour here on 5.1.10

When viewed in Safari, the vimeo iframe code is defaulting to 'HD' from the several HTML5 versions of video available - the oddness around 3.38 (screenshot below) is visible on that version in any browser, or even if downloaded & played in quicktime. Firefox defaults to Flash, here anyway. Switching 'HD' off in the player, loads a different file, without the problems.

I haven't looked in Safari 6 - but it's presumably using a different file.

Vimeo's conversion seems to have slipped up.

Hi AndyBall_UK - thanks for looking into the issue. Strangley this happended only within the last couple of weeks. After upgrading safari to version 5.1.10. This video file you screen grabed was loaded well over a year ago with no issues. The second file "Northbay" was also playing normal until the upgrade to Safari 5.1.10. Again it seems to be a problem isolated to Safari 5.1.10 running on OS X 10.6.8. Firefox - Good. Safari 6 on OS X 10.7.5 - Good. iPhone 5 ios 6.1.4 - Good.

If anyone has had similar issues and found a fix please do tell.

I understand, although the referenced mp4 video was corrupted when played in Firefox too, and when downloaded from either browser & played in Quicktime.

If there's any fix - ask Vimeo, or choose non-HD when viewing HTML5. I doubt that they'd ordinarily send a 71MB 1280 x 720 file to iPhone, so that doesn't prove that it's good - just that it gets a different file.

After several conversations with the folks at vimeo and testing on other apple computers with different operating systems it seems to be something with the latest safari update for Snow Leopard that came out in september. I've given up on my vimeo video's working properly in Safari 5.1.10. Firefox is solid for me when it comes to vimeo. The only suggestion vimeo had was upgrading my OS which at this time I can't for Final Cut Studio 7 funcationallity.

I haven't had any sound issues yet... but wouldn't be suprised if something came up down the road. Again I've given up on my vimeo video's working properly in Safari 5.1.10. Are you running snow leopard 10.6.8 w/ Safari 5.1.10?

After several conversations with the folks at vimeo and testing on other apple computers with different operating systems Lion and Mountain Lion (mavericks not yet tested) it seems like something changed that corrupts the video file with the latest Safari 5.1.10 update for Snow Leopard - released in september I believe.

Firefox is solid for me when it comes to vimeo aswell. The folks at vimeo suggested upgrading my OS which at this time I can't for Final Cut Studio 7 funcationallity.

I have the same brightness issue. I'm running OS.X 10.6.5 and Safari 6.1.4. Not all the videos are having this problem but some of them. A few weeks ago, before updating Safari, everything was fine. And everything is still fine in Firefox or Chrome. Should I just put a big benner asking people to view my work in Firefox or Chrome or is this a temporary issue?

I'm not sure how running safari 6.1.4 on os x 10.6.5 works since safari 6.1.4 was an update for moutain lion. Safari 5.1.10 was the last update for Snow Leopard os x 10.6.8 and since it's release vimeo has been broken. It is a combination of the older version of safari and os x 10.6.8 snow leopard. Vimeo no longer supports either due to all the issues. This is not a temporary issue. How and what you tell people is up to you.

But to be clear my issues have been with Safari 5.1.10 on OS X 10.6.5 Snow Leopard. You have stated safari 6.1.4 which is for mountian lion on os x 10.6.5. I do not have any issues with Safari 6.1.4 on Mountian Lion. You might want to double check what version of safari you are running. But either way if you are running Snow Leopard vimeo is going to have issues.

You should also start using firefox for your uploads to vimeo as the older OS X in combination with older versions of safari could create upload issues per vimeo.
