Did you really miss that "iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.2" was part of the original post? Seems unlikely, given that you have 260,535 points. Either way, why get nasty when it was pointed out that the info had already been provided (even if it is bio info)? Threatening to report folks to the moderators because your ego has taken a hit is just plain childish.

Guys... nmfon... and PhillyPhan... Wow. C'mon, really?

I woke up this morning to a long stream of emailed "alerts" about your back and forth posts here. That should not happen. You both come off shamefully bad in that exchange. And PhillyPhan, speaking as a fellow Philadelphian... you're not doing any favors to the city you're a fan of by running that rant while displaying your locale. And you, as a higher level contributor here no less. Really, guys... let's keep it both helpful and peaceful here.

There was a time when this was probably the greatest user-driven help forum anywhere, but honestly it's tanked tragically in recent years... with flame wars like this... with help that's well-intentioned but misguided... with snarky, superior-sounding retorts. The open helpfulness of the Apple community was one of the abstract benefits that made their product line so great. Don't compromise it with this kind of back and forth B.S., please.

Hey JTF, ugh yes apologies. I noticed a bunch of email alerts in my inbox a little while later too and cringed.

As for the exchange with Philly_Phan (PP), I was in stitches mate. Same question 5 times. LOL. Who does that? On most forums, when someone casually comments "Blah blah much?" it is usually taken as a subtle hint to pull one's head in a bit. PP replied... with a fairly uncreative retort. Great. Usually, it ends there. When I then commented to Kappy that basically ego isn't as important as being civil to someone (who merely pointed out, in fairly neutral language, that he missed something), clearly it was too much for PP to take. He just had to dive in again, as he did earlier in this thread, when others, including your good self, called out Kappy for being a bit OTT. What a stunning display of petulance. I didn't really have to engage much with PP, nor was I interested. Man, it was priceless... and really sad.

In all seriousness though, I agree wholeheartedly with you on the decline of forums these days, in general. I find tech forums are often among the very worst. Most people are just on them to learn. Yet some participants have little respect for their level of knowledge, as if there's anything wrong with not knowing something, struggling to ask a question clearly, not understanding advice given, etc. They're usually the ones obsessed with racking up points, as if it means anything in life!

I've noticed things tend to take a dive when (a) the moderators aren't active enough (if at all), or (b) the moderation framework is somewhat lacking, or (c) not enough other participants speak up. So the poor behaviour is reinforced, mostly via absence of feedback. Such a shame. Then they move on... and the same behaviour is repeated.Another day, another thread!

I'm not so sure politely asking folks to cut the crap gets through to some individuals... they seem to get off on behaving like tools. That said, I admire and respect your approach -- very friendly, diplomatic and balanced, if I may say -- and I wish you all the very best. Peace out.
