Fix for the "Squishy" Trackpad button - and a bad Genius Bar experience

Here is a link on how to fix the "Squishy" trackpad button, using paper/Origami. This seems to work really well, and it's fairly easy and safe to do. Images included in the post along with instructions.

Also - has anyone gotten any positive responses from the Genius Bar regarding this issue? It looks like they are not even looking at this as a problem.

Awesome little fix, yonnage, my trackpad button and I are back in business! I was considering exchanging my MacBook again (had to replace my first MacBook within the first 10 days because of the infamous palm rest discoloration) but now am quite happy with a short term fix for this small issue. At least if it gets any worse I have Apple Care.. Good ol' Apple Care.

And I also agree with Rod, I had an excellent experience with a Mac Genious here in Burlingame, CA. He was very respectful and made sure to hear me out.

Anywho, thanks for your post! Worked perfectly. It actually feels like my old 12" PB.

Ahh.. the memories.

Yonnage.

I didn't have the issue with the Squishy trackpad.

But, my good friend with a MacBook has it really severely.

For now, I did your oragami creation on mine, and my click got even nicer, like it is much nicer right now then it was.

Great Solution !! I will be sure to do it to my friends MacBook, he will be very happy.

Works great everyone if you do it correctly.

Thanks !!

Being fire safe is a good thing. No reason not to look at something a little more heat resistant. The EMI shielding inside the lbracket cover over the memory would fit the bill b/c it has the rebound property that this trick works on AND it's already in relatively the same location so it should be exposed to practically the same heat.

Better safe than sorry....

and WOW! That's a great tip! Thanks.
